Barcelona farewell - seeking great paella and Barceloneta ideas for our last day

Today is our last day of an amazing adventure through France and Spain. We have some loose plans for today, but I’m seeking recommendations for a wonderful place to try paella, and some easy and inexpensive things to explore.

Early morning suggestions requested, por favor, as I’m sitting on the sunny balcony waiting for my family to wake up! :-)

We will go back to La Boqueria market today, and the Magic Fountains tonight. The day is open for exploring by the waterfront and around the Barri Gotic and El Born. We spent a lot of time exploring L’Eixample yesterday after our Sagrada Familia tour (fabulous, and definitely recommend booking a 9:15 entrance and getting there even earlier).

Thanks for any suggestions!

For a decent paella in a casual restaurant, try for example http://platja.calanuri.com/en/ located "at" the beach, for a more proper setting and a range of rice dishes in a historical site, a restaurant dating from 1835, try https://7portes.com/en/ or if you fancy visiting a different neighbourhood alongside the beach promenade, try http://www.elspescadors.com/ in a cute small square in Poblenou

If you haven't, try a free walking tour by www.runnerbeantours.com, highly recommended, or book a visit to http://elbornculturaimemoria.barcelona.cat/en/ for a very interesting and educational history visit... while in the area, relax with a walk in the nearby Parc de la Ciutadella and visit the 'square of the cascade', also, and this one is especially for you Laurie, leave your hubby having a beer somewhere (fe. in one of the terraces in Fusina street, by the El Born Cultura i Memòria centre above mentioned), and splurge yourself with a 1h massage around the corner, at https://beaire.com/en/aire-ancient-baths-barcelona/

Enric, thank you for your helpful ideas! We had a great last day, and did explore the Parc de la Ciutadella at your recommendation. The fountain must have been on conservation mode, as it was very minimal. But being in the park, sitting in the shade, provided a much needed and pleasant break for our hot and weary family. It reminded us of Luxembourg Gardens in Paris, with all the trees, flowers, school groups, and peace. I was very surprised to see and hear parrots!

As we walked through the city yesterday I saw a cafe called L’Enric and thought of you. Any relation?

Thanks for all of your contributions to people’s Barcelona questions in this forum...you are very helpful!

LOL!, nope, just someone who's named like me.

These are monk parakeets (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monk_parakeet) and they're a pest. They became trendy as pets in the mid 80s but some escaped (or were released) and, in the "wild of the city", they've grown to a large population, and now they are everywhere... and the b***ds are extremely noisy.

Hi Princess!
Yes, the first part of our trip was a wonderful exploration of the Basque country in France and then in Spain. We spent three beautiful days in Saint- Jean-de-Luz, and five wonderful days in San Sebastian. One of those San Sebastian days we went on a cheese and cider house tour up in the mountains and saw another part of Basque culture. It was memorable and we had a lot of fun. Thanks for asking!
