It will depend somewhat on the type of hotel you're trying to book.
There's the BCN Film Festival (April 16-24) and the Seafood Expo (April 21-23). ​​The latter event attracted 35,000 industry professionals to the city last year.
This is also the reason for the higher hotel prices during that period.

Barcelona, like many big cities around the world, is buzzing. There’s always something going on: trade fairs and congresses, huge concerts, major sporting events, local festivals and celebrations, protests about one thing or another, and of course, the never-ending flow of tourists.

That said, the city’s big enough to handle it all without grinding to a halt. Life goes on. People still go to work, take the kids to school, do their shopping, or just go for a stroll. Sure, you might hit a crowd in a particular spot at a particular time, but two blocks away, it’s all calm again, like nothing ever happened.

The hotel scene has kept up with the pace. It’s grown a lot and is usually pretty competitive, with enough options to match whatever’s going on in town. It’s actually quite rare for Barcelona to be so fully booked that you can’t find a room anywhere. Off the top of my head, the only times that really happen are:

• When a bunch of major events all land in the same week. Doesn’t happen often, but for example, during the World Mobile Congress in February.
• Peak summer season, especially July and August. We get tourists all year round, but those two months are another level.
