Barcelona day: Telelferic + Mercat Boqueria + Sagrada Familia

Hello! Our family of 4 is headed to Sitges for a wedding in April. We arrive on a Wednesday night (staying in Sitges) and will spend Thursday in Barcelona before the 6 pm rehearsal dinner. Is this a reasonable itinerary to accomplish in one day? Any advice is appreciated!

Train from Sitges to Barcelona
Teleferic de Montjuic (looks like it takes about an hour for the experience)
Walk through Mercat de la Boqueria
2 pm group photo with wedding party at Casa Battlo
Group tour of Sagrada Familia
Train back to Sitges by 6 pm

I'd love to see Park Guell but doesn't seem like we have time?

In your favor, from Sants station to Montjuic is not all that far, even walkable. And
the same from Montjuic to the Mercat. And the Mercat to Casa Batllo.

The way I read it, you have until 2pm to do what you want to do before meeting with
the rest of the party. I think you can do what you have listed, plus maybe something
else in the vicinity, but Park Guell is a bit out of the way, as is Sagrada Familia. Of
course, if you're able to flag down a cab or Uber, maybe you can get there.

The Park is of course bigger and would take more time to absorb. For either the
park or the SF, you would probably want to buy tickets ahead of time to avoid lines.

Maybe take a tour of the Palau Musica? It might satisfy your Gaudi fix.

If you can arrange it to hit the market around 1, you could have lunch there before
the rest of the festivities.

Yes, that's right. After we meet the wedding party at 2 we'll do the Sagrada Familia together, then head back to Sitges.

Be eficient!

If you don't have this itinerary yet "settled", I'd reshuffle it:

  • Unless unavoidable, I'd skip the Telefèric this time, it'll really hurt the time for the other stuff, and you don't want to be running around like headless chickens, right?
  • Take an EARLY train to Barcelona, say 7:30am. It'll take around 45' to get to Passeig de Gràcia station, right in the middle of the city. Casa Batlló is right in front of this station, and it opens at 8:30. I'd make it my first visit.
  • At say 10ish, back again at the same station, take the metro L2 (purple) to Sagrada Família, 3 stops (15'). Visit Sagrada Família—book tickets for 10:30.
  • At noonish, back again to the metro station (purple line) to Clot station (2 stops), there change to red line (L1) and head to Plaça Urquinaona (4 stops, <20').
  • Mercat de Sant Josep (aka. La Boqueria) is at 15-20' walk from that station. You should arrive around 1:00ish.
  • Lunch?
  • Wander the Barri Gòtic -the old part of the city. There is pleeeeenty of stuff there to see to spend several days. Say you wander for 2-3h... just make sure you're heading towards Parc de la Ciutadella. At 5:30ish, take the metro (yellow line, L4) at either Barceloneta or Ciutadella-Vila Olímpica to Passeig de Gràcia, there take the train back to Sitges.

This would be my take and it's plotted at a very comfortable pace, no rushing.
Enjoy!

Thanks both! The Battlo and Sagrada Família parts of the day are set since the wedding party has arranged them. So we’ll need to optimize our morning time.

We will check out Palau Musica, looks gorgeous.

If you've been to urban food markets in Spain, you could skip the Boqueria if you really short on time.

It's in a beautiful building but the market itself is not too dissimilar to upscale food markets in other Spanish cities, even though this one has all the fame--and all the tourists. You could have lunch there, sitting at a counter, but you'd surely have to wait for a seat.
