What options do are there to get from the City to the airport? I understand there is a bus that goes there. Should I purchase tickets in advance or when I arrive in Barcelona? Where would I purchase the tickets? Cost? Time to get to airport by bus? Other suggestions?

Aeroporto Capodichino appears to be near Naples. If you are going to Barcelona, there's no need to book ahead for the Aerobus; tickets are also sold onboard and from machines at the airport; travel time about 30 minutes.

There is also the R2 train, if you happen to be closer to a station rather than where the aerobus stops.

It depends where you're going in the city. You need to say where's your hotel in order to give you any advice... although Barcelona is not a huge city, it's rather large.

Taxi is cost competitive if there are 2 of you, your destination is central, and the time is not peak peak hour.
