Do NOT rent your car from SIXT eixample downtown Barcelona.
We chose this location as it was walking distance from our hotel.
My husband was told our car was not available as he was early (10minutes!) and anyway his suitcase was too big for a Jeep Compass. Charged him $300 extra for an unwieldy white van (sliding side doors)
He picked me up at the hotel, then 10miles later (still in outer Barcelona) we get a flat. Needless to say, this was a sting operation - “helpful motorcycle guy “
wants us to follow him - we dont. He circles back to help us where we stopped . Shows us where the air pump is, etc. Tire won’t fill. We called SixT, they sent a repairmen to temporarily plug the knife hole in the sidewall. We make it back to Sixt and they give us a car the same size as the Jeep compass but also $300 more expensive. On transferring our luggage, we find both our knapsacks are missing. In all the commotion, motorcycle man stole our backpacks(sliding doors …. sooo easy).
We had been in Barcelona 3 wonderful days, being very vigilant on subways and everywhere (constant warnings of High Theft rate) and then we get set up and robbed in our rental car!

First time poster. Parts of the story don’t add up, especially a knife hole in the sidewall and the tire remaining inflated for 10 miles.
Call me skeptical.

Yes, Jaime, you are right - this was my first post, actually my first post in ANY chat room (I’ve never even been on Facebook).
Your response was both harsh and thoughtless.
Our experience was surreal and, once less numb, terrifying (what if we had followed him ??? - it would have been more than our knapsacks taken)
We are “white hairs” in our 70’s (youthful, I hope) and love road trips. I wanted to warn others about this experience in Barcelona.
As you know, driving out of Barcelona is stop and go- motorcycles always pulling up along side you -
