Barcelona Apartment?

My family of four which includes two teenagers will be traveling to Spain in June. I have not had much success with finding affordable accomodations in Barcelona for four nights using some of Rick's recomendations so have started looking at apartments through VRBO. Many of the listed hotels did not seem to be able to easily accomodate four people and/or their prices for doing so were quite high.

I am trying to only look at VRBO apartments which have user reviews, but even these seem to be spotty.

I wonder what folks think about this particular listing, especially in regards to location. Is this truly an easy walk to Las Ramblas, Borri Gatic, etc.

I am certainly welcome to other suggestions.

Thanks for your help!

My favorite place for booking Barcelona apartments is www.apartmentbarcelona.com/en/ They are a solid company and are suggested by many, including myself. Their prices are great! If you want an apartment right in the Las Ramblas area for a good rate and with room for 4, go to this link www.apartmentbarcelona.com/en/ramblas/eur This will show you only apartments in that area and you can also choose how many you have in your party and even your limits on cost as filters to be sure they only show you apartments in your price range and the size you need. All of the apartments in this second link will be in the Las Ramblas area (one of our favorites). You can click on the photo of any apartment of interest and be taken to a page where you can see all of the details of that specific apartment. Also, each listing shows the star rating given by the visitors who stayed at that specific apartment.

Last summer we rented an apartment through : http://negre.us/apartments/ I found them through VRBO. We rented Valencia C, located in the Eixample district. It's possible to walk to the Ramblas, but it was a bit far, so we took the subway. However, I liked being in a more residential area of the city, especially after a day of touring. I found the prices to be quite reasonable. We were 3 people in an apartment that could fit 4. One of the nicest features was the rooftop terrace where we had amazing views of the city and a place to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening meal. The location of this apartment was within walking distance of the Sagrada Familia and the other Gaudi buildings. Good Luck! Barcelona is an amazing city.

Do try booking.com and venere.com, they seem to be quite popular among visitors renting apartments in this city. Note that there are no 'seasons' in this city as it's an all year around destination, although like most other city destinations, June to Sep is very demanded.

As per where to rent, get your bearings with these maps so when you're looking at the sites you know where are they offering their apartments: The city has 10 districts (http://bit.ly/BCNdistricts) which are subdivided in 76 neighbourhoods (http://bit.ly/BCNhoods). The centre is considered to be Plaça Catalunya. The city has an excellent network of public transportation both metro (http://bit.ly/BCNmetromap) and bus (http://bit.ly/BCNbusmap) which allow you to cross the city fairly quick, so what's really important when you're booking far from Plaça Catalunya is that you have a metro station nearby, then it's a breeze to go anywhere.

Note as well that Barcelona grew out of absorbing existing neighbouring towns, each one with its own centre for social life, restaurants, monuments, shops, etc. therefore we have few residential-only areas inside the city (see map of neighbourhoods). This means that not being "in" or "around" Plaça Catalunya doesn't mean you won't have tons of things to do/see near your apartment or that you won't have shops and restaurants just around the corner.

I stayed in a two bedroom apartment that was nice and very well priced. I know they also have a three bedroom unit if you prefer. It's near Sagrada Familia and they is a metro stop nearby.

I recently booked the BRUC Terrace apartment through Habitat Apartments for our trip next April. It prices at $200 a night and has 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms and looks quite nice. According to Enric, djp_syd, and others, it is in a great location! It also has glowing reviews on the Habitat website, but only a few on the VRBO website. I looked at many, many apartments so know exactly what you are dealing with!!! Good luck!!

The question was asked in February for June. Presumably David and family returned home some time ago.

Yikes...I didn't mean to revive an old post! I hate it when that happens. I wasn't cruising for old posts, so somehow it made it to the top. Sorry about that!

I appreciate the responses and while I don't necessarily want to extend the post since it is old, I thought others might benefit from our experience. We ended up not staying at these apartments but rather we stayed at the Chic & Basic apartments in El Born booked through booking.com. While we have nothing to compare it to other than a one night stay near the train station, we were quite happy with the apartment and would stay there again. In fact, we have recommended it to others who will be staying there later this month.

We were in a two bedroom apartment that was air conditioned and it was in a great location. Would definitely stay there again.
