Hi all,
This is a wide open question with background, so please bear with me. My sister and I are going on a 10 day tour of France (Paris and Burgundy region) from 9/19-9/30. When we were booking back in January with the oil and tariff situ and threats of airfare prices rising we decided to fly out of Barcelona a week later on 10/6. Basically tacking on a week instead of taking a second European trip later in the year. I picked Barcelona because we've never been to Spain and figured I'd lock in the price and if I wanted to change departure places I could. My plan was to fly from Paris to Madrid then train over to Barcelona. I'm working on this part of the trip and am concerned about wildfires near Madrid and the growing anti-tourist sentiment in Barcelona. I don't want to add to the strain on resources in Madrid and also want to be a responsible visitor in and around Barcelona.
So, the questions- if you've traveled to either place recently, do you have any insight? Any suggestions for where to stay near Barcelona if not the city? And our week is really wide open and changing our departure to a variety of other cities (and countries) isn't really affecting the flight cost. If Spain might not work out this time I'd entertain other suggestions. (I said it was a wide open question!!) Would like somewhere we haven't been (so not France, Germany, Belgium, Italy or the UK).
Thanks for reading this long! Always appreciate the wisdom and insight on this forum.
