I would like advice for a potential itinerary for about 10 days and I'm new at planning. We will be in Barcelona this summer in July and want to see other places and are open to staying in Spain but not sure what where or how to get around best? We like all things to see and do, we are young seniors 55+and have never been to Spain. We also wouldn't mind maybe taking a train to France and sampling some wineries. We would then potentially fly home to the US from another airport.
Hello kristenbalo
I can talk about Barcelona. I was there last October for four nights and it is wonderful.
It was still very crowded in mid October so i think it will very extremely crowded in July and probably very hot as well but there are beautiful beaches,
If at all possible, try to get to Montserrat for at least a half day but preferably a full day.
And of course, you want to see Gaudi's architectures. I went to Sagrada Família and it's great.
There are many excellent hotels. I stayed at Hotel Continental Barcelona and can recommend it but Hotel HCC Montblanc was also recommended to me.
Although I did not take the hop on hop off bus, it was recommended to me and I regret not taking it.
You fail to realize just how big France is. You will be a long ways from the wine regions. Montpellier and Toulouse are the closest big cities, and those are more than 8 hours, round trip, drive (or train) from Barcelona. To reach Bordeaux you'd spend the whole day in the car one way.
You should consider exploring the Basque area, and possibly Andorra, as it will be cooler up in the mountains. Or look at the Spanish wine regions.
Spain and France are large countries and you couldn't see either in a month.
If you want to do Spain in 10 days pick 2 or 3 places like Barcelona, Madrid and nearby Toledo.
If you want to see Barcelona and wineries in France, the do Barcelona then head north into SW France and the Bordeaux region, stopping in amazing Carrassone.
