Barcelona and ? Costa Brava or Andulsia.

Hi. We have 13 nights in Spain flying in and out of Barcelona in September. I think the first six nights will be spent there but I am having a terrible time choosing where to go for the remainder. I wish I had three weeks!

What is your perfect 13 day itinerary? Thanks!

Does weather affect your trip? Andalusia is still pretty hot in September. On the other hand, it is fascinating. If you cannot fly open-jaw, returning from Madrid, then you'll lose a good bit of time getting to/from Andalusia. Remember, a one-hour flight uses up 1/2 day.

All things being equal (and I know they're not), I think your southern route would add some diversity to your trip. Is this your first time to Spain? I was fascinated by Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla. Those places are what was in my mind when I thought of Spain (before seeing more of the country). Don't get me wrong, Basque Country is one of my favorite places in the world. There are beautiful beaches, great restaurants and green mountains. But everyone should see southern Spain, even in the heat. It's so different from Barcelona. So, although both side trips are great options, I vote for the southern Spain route - especially if this is your first time to Spain or if you won't be returning again soon.

Yes, it is our first trip to Spain. That is probably what's making it all the more difficult to decide on an itinerary. I appreciate the insights
