barcelona and another destination in Spain

Looking to book a last minute trip to Spain (August 15th). We have 7 full days and 7 nights. We will probably land and depart from Barcelona. We would spend some time here visiting the city.

We would like to see another part of Spain and don't want to spend a whole lot of time travelling (we only have 1 week) What else nearby is recommended to visit? We like seeing quaint villages and being active. We also like adventure. We love beautiful beaches. We love relaxing dinners with good food and wine. We also love hot weather.

We have been to Italy the past 2 summers and have also looked at revisiting Tuscany, Cinque Terre or Amalfi Coast but something new may be nice. We are looking for a quaint holiday, like the above places mentioned, which we adored all three. If you are familiar with any of the following places we were lucky enough to have stayed at in Italy: agriturismo marciano in sienna, maria capellini's in vernazza, and hotel elios in sorrento, and you know of anything like the places mentioned above, in Spain, I would love to hear.

Thanks

It's a great time of year for either San Sebastian (or something along that coast) or the Baelaric Islands. I'd avoid Andalusia, just too hot in August. Even northern Spain will likely be hot once you get away from the coasts.

In addition to San Sebastian and the surrounding coast, you might find something in the Pyrenees, La Seu d'Urgell and environs might interest you.

After spending some time in Barcelona, we are now looking at going to to wine country and spending a few days there. Thoughts on Priorat region? Other wine producing areas with beautiful scenery, quaint towns, and good food? If this is an interest of ours are we better to base out of Madrid?

The La Rioja region is just a bit further (about 4-5 hours from Barcelona), and probably has more wineries and a greater variety of wines. Idf you're going to base from Madrid, La Mancha is probably the best choice.

I would book accommodation in Barcelona for the entire 7 nights.
Four days in the city and you will have done justice to its many and varied sights.
Take 3 days out to explore further ...
1 Girona and nearby Figueres for the Dali Museum.
2 Montserrat Monastery in its spectacular mountain setting.
3 Beachside Sitges and Roman Tarragona.

+1 to djp_syd response. With merely a week it's absurd to waste time moving up and down.
