Barcelona Airport Transfer with Carseats

I'm looking for advice on transferring from the Barcelona airport to our hotel in the Gothic area with 3 adults and 2 kids who need car seats.

I was trying to avoid public transportation because of dealing with suitcases and kids and then having to walk and find my hotel. Any recommendation on private transfers or getting a taxi with car seats?

Thank you!

Suggest you ask the hotel. We have had good success doing it that way. It is nice coming through the arrivals seeing a big white card with your name on it!

TAXIS AND OTHER OPTIONS

  • The notion of "private transfer" does not really exist per se over here in Barcelona because this city has a very large and ubiquitous taxi service plus an extensive network of other public services. While there are a few (very few!) private transfer companies -ie. limo services, etc- the vast majority of users of the airport-to-city itinerary use either public transportation (train/bus/metro) or the taxi service.
  • Uber et alas are "legal" again (I believe!), but the service is rather restricted and only a hundred cars or so operate in the city so, in practice, they are in disadvantage with the taxi service as per availability.
  • Taxis are exempt from carrying child seats for the journey airport-to-city since it's a very short ride (<10 miles).
  • The price of a taxi ride from the airport to the city centre should be around 30-35€ in normal circumstances (weekday, 8am-8pm, normal traffic conditions). This is a price PER CAR, not per passenger! A car carries up to 4pax + luggage.
  • Taxis at the airport are not pre-booked, the taxi rank holds +1200 taxis, just walk to the lines when exiting the terminals and, usually, within a few minutes you'll be boarding one.
  • If you need a bigger taxi (there are minivans for up to 7 pax), just talk to the taxi marshall -at the beginning of the line- and he'll order one for you. It might take a bit longer to get one though because albeit there are plenty of minivans around, they might not be always readily available.
  • Warning: some websites misuse the word "taxi" when offering private services. A "taxi" is a public service and in Barcelona, ALL taxis are painted the same: yellow and black. If not so, then it's not a taxi. Note that elsewhere but the airport and within the municipality of Barcelona, this rule doesn't apply and taxis can be then of different colours.
  • In Barcelona, the vast majority of taxi drivers are honest... but a few rotten apples also exist. Please read this (use Google Translate!) and if you feel the service wasn't correct or that you've been swindled, ask for a receipt and DO PLACE an official complaint to the Metropolitan Taxi Institute (IMT), it can be done online.
  • These are the fares for 2018.

MASCOTS AND TAXIS

  • Other than guide dogs, taxis are not required to accept any mascot and it's to the driver's discretion to do so. But if you happen to be travelling with a mascot, there is a group of very enthusiastic animal-lover taxi drivers that have "ganged up" to offer fares with your loved one.
  • This is not a company, they are simply individual taxi drivers offering a service under the name MascoTaxiBCN. These are regular taxis, there's no additional charge for this service, mascots of any size are accepted and they'll be travelling with you in the back-seat (a special seat belt will be provided as per city regulations with mascots in cars).
  • To book, simply send a Whatsapp msg to the phone +34 675879312 (or use Messenger in their Facebook page) stating where are you, where do you want to go, picking time and size of the mascot (small, medium, large). Et voilà, they'll reply within a few minutes.
  • Unfortunately, at the time of writing, this group is formed by a dozen cars (from a fleet of 11000+!) so availability might not be 'right away' hence the reason is important to pre-book IN ADVANCE when possible.

Enjoy!
