Any recent problems with security for flights to US out of Barcelona? We will be doing carry-on, so no checking in.
Heard a lot about airport chaos and don’t want to be caught by surprise.

If you are able to check-in online show up 3 hours before the flight. Most airports in cities that draw a lot of tourists last summer found (like other industries) they did not have enough personnel to handle the customer demand after things opened up. When is your trip?

I don't know where you hear such a thing, airport security in Barcelona is one of the most organised you can find. Something else is that being one of the busiest in Europe it can get hectic at specific times.
One does not build public infrastructure for peak cases but for average cases so just like a highway, no matter how big it is, there are always a few days/hours when it becomes saturated when there is an avalanche in demand.
The airport of Barcelona handles an average of 50 million passengers per year (pre-pandemic, now picking up to just 35 million so far this year). To my knowledge, this year there haven't been many of "those" days -and that includes a few industrial action days- except for July when there were a few of those in a row exacerbated by similar problems in other European airports (due, as mentioned, to a shortage of staff)

Thanks, all, for replies.
We just got through security and it was efficient. There were the usual long lines to check bags, but with carry on we got through security in 10 minutes.
