Barcelona Airport Hotel with Shuttle

Our family of eight will be flying into Barcelona from Marrakesh on January 5 arriving @ 9:30 p.m. and out the next morning. We just need a hotel for the night, nothing too fancy because we're just going to sleep and maybe get a very late dinner/hearty snack. Hotel ibis Barcelona Aeropuerto Viladecans does not suit our needs because they have no shuttle and no family room for four people which we need. Up to $600 total for three rooms, preferably less, would be fine. TIA

I suggest using a search site like Booking.com where you can put in the number of people, number of rooms, and then click on the filter for airport shuttle. I did a dummy search and it came up with dozens of options, many in your price range. Good luck!

There is a Best Western 10 min from the airport. It says there are free transfers to the airport. You might look that one up.

Thanks to both of you. I did just as you suggested and booked at the Best Western Plus Hotel Alpha Aeropuerto.

Too late! I just saw the message now...

IMHO, your hotel is not the best choice... It's located in the middle of nowhere, at the edge of an industrial estate. The closest cafe or restaurant is almost a mile away, not much in between, and even then, the area can be a bit dodgy at times. It's not unsafe per se, and it's not run down or anything, but it isn't the best part of town either if you catch my drift.

The airport of Barcelona is so close to the city that it makes it a bit absurd to book hotels "by the airport". Even if it's only to crash, you're missing the choices (restaurants, things to see/do in those dull hours while waiting to depart, etc). After all, the journey from the centre of Barcelona to the airport terminals is less than 45 minutes -either by bus, train or metro. Staying in a hotel "by the airport" will barely save you 20' since you'll still have to take some sort of public transportation to get to the terminals.

But again, if it's only to sleep and depart early next morning, I guess you can dine at the hotel. And if, as I understand, you've got a shuttle booked that makes things easier, right? ;)

My take anyway!

Thank you for the alert, Enric. Our flight arrives at 9:15 p.m. in Barcelona, so by the time we exit the airport it will be at least 10:00 as we have some checked bags. We'll be out of the hotel by at least 9:00 a.m. the next day. So, really it's just a place to sleep and shower. My concern is dinner if we can even get it. If you know of any better hotels near the airport with a shuttle service, I'd love to hear about them.

@Lindy, I am so sorry, but I am not a good source for hotels in my home city since I have no use for them. I can advise on location, but not the hotels themselves.

In any case, with your current choice, I would think you'll be able to have some dinner, even if it's a snack. Regular dinner hours in these shores are 9-10pm, so if you arrive 'around' 10ish, I don't see why you couldn't have dinner, right? But again, email them and ask...

A tip, though, for others with a similar dilemma:

  • Assuming you're departing from TERMINAL 1 at the airport, staying in Barcelona near any station of line L9 of the metro and/or the Aerobus line, will put you at an easy spot for the trip to the airport next morning.
  • If you're departing from TERMINAL 2: choose Aerobus or the Rodalies train (stations Passeig de Gràcia, at the heart of the city, or Sants, the main hub)(1)

(1) Be aware the train to the airport runs every 30'

Thank you, Enric. It's a relief to know that we can have something to eat. Btw, we will have spent four nights near the Sagrada Familia earlier then go to Fes and Marrakesh and return for just the night in Barcelona. The eight of us will definitely enjoy Barcelona in those three full days.

HI Lindy -

In a few weeks, my son and I are returning to BCN and leaving the next day - I booked a room in Hotel Salles Ciutat. It has a shuttle to/from the airport every half hour as well as a restaurant. The website says the hotel is "5 minutes’ walk from the Cèntric gastronomic area" and there appears to be food also available there.

Have a good trip!

Lindy - Wanted to update you on the hotel I recommended above. It was a great fit for us - shuttle was seamless and it was a quick drive to/from the airport.

For context, we returned our rental car to BCN and took the shuttle to the hotel around noon. The shuttle had no issue with traffic at this time of day.

We checked in and were asked what time we planned on catching the shuttle the next morning. We ended up on the first shuttle of the day due to our early flight.

We ended up taking a cab into the city for some shopping and last minute wandering around. We decided after a few hours we were done with vacation and we ended up ordering room service. The yelp reviews of restaurants around the hotel were good as it looks like travelers venture out of the hotel to eat. We were exhausted so we took the easy route and stayed in.

The beds was probably the most comfortable of our trip and the room was really nice.

Hope this helps!

Best Western is the best option in my opinion. The price is ok and they also offer airport shuttle.

Hope this helps.

Thank you, everyone. We have decided to stay with the Best Western because they have a room for four people: my son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons. That way we only have to rent three rooms instead of four. Amyk, so glad it worked out for you!

As my closing comment to this thread:

Barcelona is generally a safe city compared to many other cities of a similar size, especially when it comes to serious physical harm or life-threatening situations. But it’s still a city of 1.8 million people, or 4.5 million if you count the metropolitan area. That means crimes of all kinds do happen, so it’s wise to follow basic safety measures, similar to what you would do living in any big city.

Barcelona has a couple of extra factors to keep in mind that add complexity to the situation. First, it’s very multicultural, with about 25% of residents coming from over 175 different countries. Second, it’s one of Europe’s top tourist destinations, with more than 15 million visitors each year. These factors don’t make the city unsafe, but they do influence its social dynamics. In some neighbourhoods, higher social pressures, economic challenges, and integration difficulties can contribute to crime, so, as in any large city, safety and conditions vary across different areas.

Looking specifically at hotels around the airport, it’s worth knowing a bit about the area. El Prat de Llobregat grew from a small farming village into a dense urban city because of Barcelona’s expansion, industrial growth, and the airport. Rapid population waves, including many working-class families seeking affordable housing outside Barcelona, combined with historical neglect during Franco's dictatorship, created some marginalised neighbourhoods. Sant Cosme, in the south of the city of El Prat de Llobregat, is one of them. It has one of the highest rates of crime, drug activity, and social challenges in Catalonia. Still, government and local community efforts are strong, aiming to improve safety, social cohesion, and quality of life. In 2025, Sant Cosme is very different from what it was at the end of the dictatorship, but still faces lots of challenges.
