Any recommendations for good restaurants in Barcelona? My friend and her family will be there next week.

No experience, but this one, Palace Hotel’s Amar restaurant should be pretty good. Good luck getting reservations.

Rick and others refer to Els 4Gats as a "touristy" place. We loved it -- it had a great atmosphere and felt plenty "local" to us. And the food was excellent.

We had dinner at Four Cats last week. It was pleasant. Didn't feel too touristy.

In early April, I ate at Obama BCN in the Eixample. Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes 603. I asked if he was affiliated with the restaurant and they said that there used to be a statue of him at the front. The motif is African explorer.
The food was very good. I had the fajitas.

How long are they there? If it is only a couple days, of course stick to Spanish cuisine, tapas, etc. But if it is a longer stay -- and they are looking to branch out -- I highly recommend La Briciola. It is an Italian pizzeria and tratttoria by Pino Prestanizzi, an improbable YouTube sensation. We ate there twice and loved it.
