I will be going on a day trip to Montserrat in July. There are lots of places. You can search previous posts about Barcelona. If lucky, Enric will comment as he is a wealth of information on Barcelona.

I went to Girona for a day. I considered also going to Figueres (Dali museum) for a day but couldn't bring myself to leave Barcelona for 2 entire days. The train goes through Girona to Figueres, but because of the Dali museum hours, I wasn't able to work both sites into a single day trip.

There are other good choices if you are going in beach weather (I wasn't).

What do you want to do/see? There are beach towns, a mountain monastery, a Medieval city, art, cava wine tasting, a Roman city of ruins, etc...

Car or public transit?

We can help you better if you give us some specifics.

@Douglas, i will not be travelling by car. I will be open to options for a day trip by rail or bus. I would be interested in scenery and finding out about the rich culture of barcelona. I would be open to anything that is worth visiting :)
