Barcelona 12-15 April, then fly out of madrid 22 april...where to go in Southern SPAIN?!

So we basically have a week after we leave Barcelona(be there from 12-15 April). We (my wife 28 and me 31) will have 7 days or so to explore Southern France before we fly out of Madrid 22 April. Side note, we are coming to BCN from 10 days in France.

We were thinking of getting the 4-trip Rail Pass instead of renting a car.

-Madrid is not a must see (for now) as we will arrive 21 April and fly out the next day back to USA
-The only must on the trip right now is Sevilla. (we'd like to spend 3 nights there--is that too much)
-We are adventurous, love good food, wine and sight seeing. A little less on the museum scene but we will still see a few.

What can you recommend, friends?

thanks, travelers!

Nathan,
I'm a bit confused by your post.
Are you flying into Madrid or Barcelona?
Do you plan to visit Sevilla first, then Barcelona?

Three nights in Sevilla will give you 2 full days to experience this beautiful city.

Since you will be returning to Madrid (to fly home), have you considered visiting Granada & Córdoba?

Have you visited Granada, Córdoba or Toledo?

If not, I'd suggest visiting these beautiful cities after your days in Barcelona.

If you are set on visiting the south of France, then why not visit it while you're in France (before visiting Barcelona)?

Perhaps it would be helpful if you'd provide a bit more information.

Okay, now it makes more sense!

So you'll have 7 nights to explore the south of Spain before ending in Madrid to fly home, right?

I'd suggest traveling to Granada for a couple of nights, but you must book your Alhambra tickets ASAP-- actually I'm not sure if they're already sold out for the month of April...

As I mentioned before, 3 nights in Sevilla will give you 2 full days there& you can certainly travel to Córdoba on your way to Madrid.

Córdoba is one of my favorite cities in Spain & I'd recommend at least an overnight there. The city is best experienced without the tour group crowds that descend there every morning.

If you choose to skip Granada, you may like to visit Toledo, an easy 30 minute train ride from Madrid.

Toledo, as well as Córdoba, are best if visited as overnight trips, IMO.
