Hello,
Does this train have free WIFI?
Thanks,
Karen
I found a 2015 online reference, saying that Renfe planned to add Wi-Fi service to the AVE trains, but I haven't found confirmation that it has occurred yet. I took one or two AVE trips this summer, and I don't remember having Wi-Fi service.
Even if they say they have it. I would not count on it. My experience with wifi on trains has been very spotty and, if working, slow. But that was a couple of years ago so it may be improved some.
I didn't have Wi-Fi on this train in September 2015.
I also agree with Frank. Since Wi-Fi on trains is merely a 3G or 4G signal "pulled off the air" and converted to Wi-Fi, you will find the signal varies tremendously as your train is moving. It's also subject to fluctuations depending on how many others on the train are using it at the same time, and how far you are from the wireless signal (which may not be in your car). When I use it on Amtrak from New York to Philadelphia or DC, sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's very slow, and sometimes it goes out altogether.
Sounds like I should plan on no WiFi.
Thanks for your input.
Theoretically it was supposed to be implemented "during 2016" in "all the AVE trains in this line". I haven't used wifi in my latest trips to Madrid so I can't say, sorry. Latest unofficial news: https://www.railpanda.com/blog/el-wifi-en-el-ave-de-renfe/
The trip is only a bit over two hours. Watch the movie instead (they distribute earphones and show a movie).

Trains have come a long way!
I remember taking this route, on my first trip to Spain back in 2001, and the train ride was almost 8 hours long & there was no movie!
Enjoy your trip!
