Attire when visiting cathedrals in Spain

Planning to visit a few cities in Spain in early August. Can you please advise if there are any specific restrictions or requirements related to attire when visiting the religious sites such as cathedrals?

No tank tops and no really short shorts. Wear a shirt that covers your shoulders and pants or skirt that covers your knees.

We visited cathedrals in Madrid, Grenada, and Seville and if they had dress codes, they certainly weren't enforced. Most of the kids in the school field trips were wearing far more revealing clothing than tourists (e.g. extremely short shorts). Though we always covered our shoulders, there were a few days in the high 90s where my husband wore shorts and we took our chances and no one said anything. That being said, others will probably say that it's not appropriate, but the weather was so miserable that my husband couldn't wear pants -- we would've just not gone in, had there been an issue (I always wear capris -- even in Italy and it was fine).

The churches are more conservative in terms of dress than France. I agree with the above response, tho my skirts and dresses end at the top of my knee or slightly above, and it wasn't like I was "testing" them, but I never had an issue.I don't wear sleeveless or lower cut tops, people that do might want to carry a big, lightweight scarf.

The Cathedral in Barcelona abdolutely has, and enforces, a dress code. I don't know about others because I am always covered up. I am one of those who does not feel cooler if the sun is beating down on my skin. You do need to pay attention to fiber content; polyester can be miserable.

Was there for about a week in early July. Visited 4 different churches. All I wore the whole trip were blue jean shorts and T-shirts. Not a bit of problem in any church with what I wore.

I was in Spain the last 2 weeks of June, during the "heat wave." I was surprised that our RS tour guide didn't mention appropriate dress for the cathedrals in Sevilla or Toledo.

Some of our group had on shorts, skirts well above the knee and/or sleeveless tops. But when we went in, not a word was said. The only thing anyone cared about is removing our hats.
