I don't know who operates those ATMS, but if you don't much like the selection, then you can withdraw a smaller amount and re-supply at your next stop, closer to your hotel.
There are whole rows of ATMs there. I don't know who operates them, but as noted, just get whatever cash you need right away and then hit a regular ATM later. Or buy $100 worth of cash before you leave.
Just keep alert against DCC and withdraw in euro.
Last summer, I planned to withdraw money at an ATM in Barajas before our connecting flight to Bilbao. Much to my dismay, none of the ATMs in the terminal were operating. Fortunately, I had about 90 euros left over from the last trip. I was quite surprised because I had heard of how easy it was to withdraw money at the airport. There are ATMs, but you will want to have some spare cash, just in case.
The only ATMs I was able to locate in Barajas were stand alone machines, not the wall mounted, bank operated types like in Gatwick and Heathrow. The machine held onto my card for more time than was comfortable, without any action. I thought my card would not be returned, and then finally the machine spit it out, but without any money. My recommendation is to get some euros from your local bank before you leave, and then only use ATM machines attached to banks once you reach the city. (I think I learned that from R.S.). That way if there is an issue, someone at the bank can assist you. The panic I felt at the thought of not having my card returned and then being without it during my trip was not pleasant.
Barajas has ATMs from Banco Popular, Bankia, Banco Santander and BBVA. Locations shown here.
Thx y'all!
Marco - nice link!
My only caveat about Barajas is that the airport seems basically closed down in the very early morning. I had a flight arrive at 6AM and nothing was open. The vendor-type areas were all closed and basically arriving flights were filtered through one path, to passport control, without passing anything open. I'm sure you could find an ATM somewhere, but it might not be the one you want. If your flight arrives at a normal time, no problem. I've had no trouble at 10AM. Not sure when between 6 and 10 it opens up more.
We arrive @ 9am tomorrow (yay!) so no prob
