Areas to stay in several cities Spain and Portugal

We will be visiting the following cities May 2018 and I am now in the process of looking for lodging except for Madrid where I will be using points for Marriott.. I am looking at airbnbs as we like having an apartment. What I need help with in all these cities is what area is the best for us to stay in.. we are an older couple who like to walk so not afraid to walk with luggage if need be 15 mins though not too much more.. we do not plan to drive if we can help it.. will be training it where we can and flying when distance is to far so sometimes coming from the train station and sometimes airport.
We are not into nightlife and need quiet place at night to sleep so if an area will be noisy at night that will not be good for us. I have done some research but its getting complicated so any help would be appreciated, an area in each city that is a good base to see the top sights from. We will do day tours if there are places we should see away from where we stay. Also not adverse to taking public transit if there is a good reliable system. Thanks!!

Barcelona fly to Majorca
Majorca fly to Madrid (poss Palma as it is central but I have read in May it should not be noisy at night)
Madrid train to Granada
Grenada train to Cordoba
Cordoba train to Seville
Seville fly to Porto
Porto train to Lisbon
Lisbon

Unfortunately, I had a great apartment recommendation for Madrid, which we got thru HomeAway.com 3 years ago, but you won't need it.

As for Sevilla and Lisboa, on a trip many years ago, we used Rick Steves' cheapest recommendations from his guidebook. They were both in the central old town, great for dining and sightseeing, but very noisy, and the Sevilla place was not very clean. I bet neither place is in his guidebook any more, but you might want to double-check that whatever place you choose is going to be quiet enough for you. Have a great trip!

thanks but since we are looking at apartments and a quiet area at night not sure the recommendations in the guide book will be much help but I will check it out. I don't need specific places just the best areas to look in that will be convenient and quiet if that exists:)

Well I can recommend two places in Seville and Two in Lisbon all in quiet areas but close to the heartbeat of the city . 3 are Airbnb and one was with booking.com . Lisbon is 10 -15 min walk to train and bus . The two in Sevilla close to bus station. I’ve stayed in Granada And Córdoba both a week each , great places but to large for the two of you , not expensive just a bed Or two to many :)
Unfortunately Airbnb doesn’t have property #s like VRBO . The only way I know to send you the links to these properties is via email . If you don’t want me to send you email the only other thing I can do I write down the discriptions as they appear on the Airbnb site so you know what to look for .
I put many hrs and research into finding my places to stay as I’m an older woman traveling on my own or with other women and want a safe ,quiet ,clean close to everything place to stay . .
Please let me know what you decide ...
Best regards ,Christine

Barbara, in Cordoba I very much enjoyed my apartment at Mi Casa En Cordoba, which I booked through Booking.com. Very near the Mesquita, with restaurants, shops, small markets nearby. Small building with just a few apartments of different sizes, formerly a large residence I believe. Nicely furnished, lovely owners and staff, I loved it. They used to be in the ceramics business, I bought a couple beautiful old tiles off the wall, and now enjoy looking at them everyday!

We stayed in great apartment in Seville through VRBO. Two blocks from cathedral, but completely quiet. It was off a side street and the apartment was in the back. Great view of the cathedral at night from our balcony.

For Mallorca, we stayed in Illetas. Great apartment with outstanding view and access to beach. It was a 20-30 minute bus ride into Palma, but the bus stop was within a block and ran all the time. We had no problem getting around.
