Are Dali home and Dali museum in same town?

I am doing Spain my way in May and with only one evening + a day in Barcelona I’m thinking of arriving a day early because I’d like to take a day trip to Dali’s home which Rick said is amazing. Not clear where it is or if thevDali Museum is in the same town or how easy they are to get to from Barcelona. Has anyone done it ? Gracias

I haven't been to either, but from everything I've read, it's the Theater and Museum in Figueres that is the wildest. The house is outside Cadaques in Portlligat. Figueres is much closer to Barcelona, so you're in luck if that's where you want to go.

There is tons to see in Barcelona, and you would benefit from having considerably more extra time in the city.

Take what amazes Rick with a grain of salt. It's pretty simple to visit the Dali museum. Take the train to Figueres, then the bus or a taxi into town. If you take the bus, it's a pleasant 15 minute walk to the museum. The museum was designed by Dali. Next door is the Dali jewel collection, also worth seeing.

It's pretty hard to get to both the museum and the home in one day without a car or private driver. Public transportation between them is not straightforward or frequent.

You can stop on the way back for a few hours in Girona.

There is the Dali museum and the home which he built for his wife. They are not in the same town and are actually quite far from each other. I would highly recommend the Dali Museum, it is incredidble! Dali personally designed it and it has one of the greatest collection of his works in the world. The home is beautiful but it does not contain nearly the same amount of art work as the museum.
hope this helps.

"with only one evening + a day in Barcelona" ... and you want to waste it by going elsewhere? You'd need several weeks to proper visit Barcelona! :))

Anyhow, no, the Dali Museum Complex, which includes four different sites, is spread over three different locations which cannot be done on the same day. The link provided by Agnes will clarify this. The two most popular are the museum in itself, in Figueres, and one of the houses he and Gala lived in, in Cadaqués -actually a hamlet outside Cadaqués. But then you have another one in Púbol too.

Thanks everyone! I'm an artist and a huge Dali fan so this will still be a hard decision for me but you've been super helpful!

If you are a huge Dali fan, then plan on arriving a few days early or alter your trip. To do both the Museum and home likely means two nights in Cadaques. Basically arrive, take train to Figueres, do the museum and lunch. Head to Cadaques, spend the night, if you can arrange it, maybe only one night, but two is nice. Definitely not a day trip for both, maybe for the museum only, but the time out of Barcelona seems a waste, Barcelona is worth several nights on it's own.

Do and see what is important to you - don't let others shame you into skipping something. It can be difficult to see both the museum in Figueres and the home outside Cadaques in one day and back to Barcelona. I did it driving with an early morning departure and late return. With public transportation, it would be a long day with lots of walking (its a 10 minute walk into Cadaques and another 20 to the house). You'd have to time tickets for the house just right to make it there in time and get back to your bus in time.

I enjoyed the house very much. Lots of his art is there but it's not an art museum per se. Plus his studio is left the way he had it. You MUST pre-order tickets for the house and there would be no point in visiting without tickets for a tour. Very good tour.

The museum is excellent and extensive. You could easily spend a couple hours or more there if a Dali fan. Lines get long in busy season so try and arrive first thing. That is easy and quick to get to by train (AVE) and then a bus from the station into the city center.
