Arcos de la Frontera VS Cómpeta

Hello!

My husband and I are planning a week long trip in May to Spain. We want to rent a villa with gorgeous views and a pool that we can keep as our singular home base with access to restaurants within 15 min. We will rent a car. We want rest and relaxation with some siteseeing, maybe a beach but definitely cute villages to walk around in and enjoy local culture and cuisine. I’ve been looking at the area outside Competa and the area around Arcos de la Frontera. Which area would you recommend for this type of vacation ? Is there a different area you’d recommend? Thank You!

Mid-May is getting into the main tourist season so prices may be elevated. While I haven’t been to Cómpeta it is closer to the coast than Arcos. There are a few villages in the area, so you should be able to do some sightseeing and find a variety of restaurants.

Arcos is about a 20 minutes further drive from the coast, but Jerez de la Frontera is only about 30 minutes away and Cádiz 40 minutes. I’m not sure how many villas are up the hill in Arcos for the view you’re looking for.

Of the two I’d go to Cómpeta if for no other reason than I’ve never been to it.

That would be a good time to rent around Vejer de la Frontera, which is about 10 minutes drive from a great beach, El Palmar de Vejer. Mid May is not yet the high tourist season in that area.

Vejer might be the most beautiful of all the "white villages," but few Americans seem to know this area..the Costa de la Luz. It's considered one of the food capitals of Andalucia and there are quite a few wonderful, small restaurants. I like its much better than Arcos; I don't know Competa.
