apartment in Malaga

Have been reading the new Rick Steves 2019 Spain book. Unfortunately, although Malaga is mentioned as having a few sights, there is nothing about where to stay, eat, etc. We would like an apartment with laundry facilities - best to stay in the city center or on the outskirts?

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Kip

Last week we returned home from four weeks in Malaga. We rented an apartment on Homeaway. You are able to check amenities you require such as washing machine, elevator, microwave, etc. Obviously, closer to city center is more expensive. If it works with your budget, staying close to city center is what I'd prefer. As we were staying a month, we found an apt about a fifteen to twenty minute walk from city center and thirty from the beach. This was fine for us, but would have been more convenient and nicer closer to center. We always felt safe wherever we were. You can also look on Airbnb, tripadvisor and booking.com for apts.
We loved Malaga and plan to return next winter. You should be able to find many options on those sites.

I did online research and found some food recommendations before we went. Check tripadvisor. A great tapas place is El Tapeo de Cervantes. It is very tiny and requires reservations. They have a 730 and 930 seating. Really fun. They own three other places in the area so you can try them all. We went to three of the four. A famous place is El Pimpi which is located by the Roman Theater so you have a good view if you sit outside. Go inside and ask for the tapa bar which is a different area and menu from the other inside seats. Cartijo de Pepe on Plaza Merced, Julia Bakery, Cafe Central on Constitucion Square and Dulce Dreams are other places to try. Grocery stores are very cheap. 100 Montaditos is more of a fast food chain of little sandwiches that you see all over Spain. Fast and decent.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the information. I've saved it so we can access it while traveling. Looks like we'll try for a city center apartment.
