My husband and I will be traveling to Barcelona in May and would like to rent an apartment, either a 1 bedroom or studio. We would like to be in a central location where we can walk to sites and restaurants. Thanks for you help.
Be cautious with by-owner apartment rentals in Barcelona; AirBnb at least is quite unpopular with the authorities and the residents.

You could look for what is known as a apartment hotel, such as this:

And there are lots more on Tripadvisor:

Thanks, Lola. I agree with not doing AirBnB or other rent by owner operations. I will check out your other suggestions.

Can I ask why you aren't booking through Airbnb? I am planning a trip this summer, and was going to book all of our accommodations through airbnb. Thanks for the advice!
@indeanna_jones it's still legal to book via Airbnb in Barcelona, but the service has a bit of a bad rap with locals and the city government, due to the increase of illegal rental apartments by Airbnb and other rental schemes.
Our mayor, Ada Colau, has tried to encourage a more sustainable rental market while reigning in the power of some of these rental schemes. Just this summer their was a crackdown on Airbnb in Barcelona, almost 3000 illegal listings were removed, and new hotel construction was halted.
That makes sense. I appreciate the information, Carlos. I'll look into other methods of booking rentals for our trip. Thank you.
