Has any one participated in the Vaughan Town school as an English speaking teacher/conversationalist? They have about four school locations in Spain for which native English speakers receive room & board for a week to converse with (paying) Spanish students. Was it a good experience?
I attended the school in Gredos (Barco de Avila) several years ago...I did not know what to expect. Needless to say it must have been good...no, great..as I have attended approximately 15 of 16 sessions total now, in most of the various venues. Some change from year to year. I have no particular preference for one venue over another. It is the participants, Spanish, and Anglos, that I go for. I have made long lasting and deep friendships with both. In fact, when I return to Spain each time (one or sometimes twice per year) I meet several for lunch or dinner while there. I have also visited the English speakers.
If you enjoy talking, talking, talking, for all day, meeting new friends and learning first hand of life in Spain, and somewhat in other parts of the world as well, having your eyes and mind opened to new experiences, then, the Vaughantown program is definitely for you.
I recommend the program without hesitation. In fact, I am planning to register for a session or two in the spring of 2015.
HJ (above) got me involved in Vaughantown, too. It was one of the best things I have ever done, and I have now been twice (two different venues). I am still friends with Anglos and Spaniards from both years, even traveling last year with an Anglo I met the year before, then visiting a Spaniard in Barcelona. There it's no better way to learn about the culture than talking in depth with people about their jobs, daily lives, what they like to do on the weekends, etc. If you are a people person who loves to talk, you will love it. It sounds almost too good to be true - the fantasic meals with wine at lunch and dinner, the beautiful locations, everything paid for - but it is legit. I hope to go back next year, but will definitely be there the year after.
Thanks to both of you for your ringing endorsements. It sounded like a great program but I wanted to hear from someone who participated & had a good time, the company is legit and well organized. We're planning to sign up this spring. It doesn't seem like Vaughan is ready for spring sign-ups. I'll keep monitoring.
I'll start in the yr. 2006. I was to late to join a session. The name of the school was " Puebloingles " I joined in 2007 two wonderful session at the first venue. Valdelavilla, a rustic village in Soria. In 2008, I again signed up for 4 sessions, Two of witch were at Gredos, with Yougahtown. The other two were with Puebloingles. The two coompanies are split now. They remane the same. Vaughan town is a 5 day session and Pueblooingles ," now named Diverbo", is a full week. The venues are all over the spread of Spain. What are You wateing for?? Go to Spain and share with so many!
Thanks for your reply, Jon. I didn't know about Diverbo. I just checked out the website -- pretty nice venues. How does Diverbo compare to Vaughan Town? Do you prefer one or the other? I'm jazzed.
Hola Sue! DO GO!! Keep the JAZZ!! After 32 sessions, over 7 years, I refuse to chose between the two companies! I have wonderful Friends from both offices. Going to the different venues is part of the magic! I plan my trip :: Date of, and length of my trip. I request two sessions back to back. First a week with Diverbo, a 7 day session. Friday to Friday. Then on Sunday, I join a session with Vaughantown. Sunday to Friday. Travel in spain is next. I'm blessed with My Spanish Familia. OH Sue I could share so many wonderful stroies. YOU must go and discover Your Own. From
Texas, with Love and Respect of Spain, Jon
