Bon Appétit! Cafe Pasteleria and Inpass Café Madrid are excellent cafes near hotel.

A place with decent desserts close by is Chocolateria Valor. It’s a chain I’ve been to in other Spanish cities; Calle del Postigo de San Martín, 7. For churros and chocolate, Chocolateria San Gines near the Puerta del Sol; Pasadizo de San Ginés, 5,

Go to La Mallorquina in Puerta del Sol. Try the Napolitana pastry -- I prefer the crema one (the chocolate one was too rich).
I also like Le Pain Quotidien (on Gran Via), although it's not Spanish but a Belgian chain. They have a variety of salads, quiches, soups, pastries, etc.

I have eaten at Liabeny and the cuisine is superb. Second choice would be Puerto sol.
