Hello,
Planning a first-time trip to Andalucia this spring - including Cordoba and Sevilla. We were looking at early May but see that the Feria de Abril will be May 6-11. Does anyone have experience with this festival? I realize this is subjective, but would value any opinions on whether this would be a nice "bonus" to our trip, or so crowded and crazy that it should be avoided (e.g. IMO Notting Hill Carnivale)
Thanks!
Joy
what do you know about Spanish ferias?
Just what I've seen on-line . . .
ok so you know that the Ferias in Spain are nothing really like in the US.
They have Casetas that are basically families' living rooms moved to the fairgrounds. Most are private, you cannot enter. for the Sevilla feria, some are public - good discussion here on reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/Seville/comments/1ibwjqq/seville_in_early_may_for_the_f%C3%A9ria/
that said, i'm going in 2026 for the fair anyways. it's a great time.
Many of the feria casitas in Cordoba are open to the public. When we shyly asked at one if were allowed in, the guy said, "of course, this is not Sevilla".
The fairground is on the edge of town, walkable from the centre. It's a great experience.
Sevllie has some lovely attractions, but Cordoba is my favourite Spanish city.
We were there during the Spring Fair in 2023. We saw ladies of all ages wearing their beautiful flamenco dresses strolling about as well as riding the horse drawn carriages. We went to Place de Espanya and there happened to be a gathering with hundreds of people in their traditional clothing dancing to live music. It was wonderful! We decided not to go to the actual Feria because we were pretty satisfied with what we saw. Besides, there was a heatwave that week with temperatures up to 105 degrees and we just did not want to deal with that heat. But the women looked so fresh and lovely in their dresses and seemed unbothered by the heat!
Yes, Nick, I understand what Casetas are, I was stationed in Rota for 2 years and went to the Feria there both years and actually saw the Casetas.
Thank you everyone, appreciate the feedback!
