Antigen Test Site by Europa Hotel, Madrid

We will be traveling in Spain this March. Our last stop will be at the Europa Hotel in Madrid. Does anyone know where my wife and I could take an antigen test before we leave for the airport?

This list of test sites comes from the US Embassy in Madrid. You could check the links for locations. Also you could contact the hotel to ask, they're sure to know what's nearby.

One person who was there a couple months ago used quironprevencion.com‘s clinic on Calle de Francisco Zea, 8, 28028 Madrid. That site is actually near the Prado.

Closer to Hotel Europa is Centro Médico Gran Via. http://www.cmgranvia.com/ at C/ Gran Vía, 67, 28013 Madrid. Its site says the tests are valid for travel. Another website at the same address is https://democratest.com/test-antigenos/. I’m not certain what the difference is, but my guess is one is the clinic while the latter is the lab. You can make an appointment via either website.

There’s also a clinic at the airport. https://www.aena.es/en/passengers/travellers/covid-clinics.html
It is a new contractor and has been doing the testing at the airport since the beginning of this year.

Dick,

Thank you for the reply. The list is nice but I can not triangulate the locations of the test sites to the hotel.

I have e-mailed the hotel for help in finding a test site, but they have not responded.

Jamie,

Would you recommend gettting the test the day before in Madrid, or the day of the flight at the airport?

The Quiron Prevención clinic is 4km the hotel. It’s a couple blocks from the bullring. The closest metro stop is Diego de Leon. The 2nd place is a 10 minutes, about .6 miles, easy walk from the hotel. When you come out of the hotel walk down the pedestrian only street away from the Puerta Del Sol. When you get to the Plaza Callao and the Gran Vía (a major street) turn left, then walk about 11 blocks. The closest metro stops are Plaza de España and Santo Domingo but would be just as easy walking it.

If you like Dan Quixote and Sancho Panza, you’d like the statue at the Plaza de España.

Per your last question, it depends on what time your flight departs. Ours departs about 11am so I intend on getting tested the day before just to play it safe. We also have BinaxNOW tests as backup.

Don’t count on the hotel responding. It never responded to my email about clinics a few months back. We’re staying at Hotel Europa too.

Edited: thanks Scudder. It was you who gave me in Quirón Prevención information.

I’ve used the QuironPrevencion clinic on C. Francisco Zea twice now. It’s definitely a subway ride from the city center, but easy. Iberia has sent me a discount code knocking €5 off the regular price.

I remember the online enrollment feeling cumbersome, but clearly not impossible. I didn’t quite trust the system to easily deliver results electronically, so I waited for printed copies. In November I waited in the office for 15 mins, but this past Tuesday the nurse asked me to leave the clinic and come back 30 mins later—I killed the time having a coffee in the sun around the corner.

A friend did the test at the airport prior to check in. He also did a home test the night before, so he wouldn’t have any surprises when he was packed and ready to go.

Thank you for asking this question. We will be spending 2 nights in Madrid at the Hotel Europa after our Basque tour in May. I was wondering this very thing. You saved me the inquiry. Do report back about the hotel and safe travels!

Kathy,

I will definitely share the info once I receive something definite.
