Andalusia or Costa Blanca

Hello,

Our friends are coming to visit us from the US in Germany and we want to take a trip to Spain for a week in late June. They will be with us for three weeks and by the time we go to Spain we will already have been to Paris for a few days and some places in Germany. I want to take the trip as an opportunity to relax and soak in the sun, but also experience Spanish culture! We’d like to soak in some Spanish history, culture and of course some beaches. I am between two types of itineraries:

1-fly into Valencia and out of Alicante, taking it easy and maybe a day trip and some hiking.

2- fly in and out of Malaga, with visits to Ronda and Grenade with a beach day or two.

Wherever we go, I do envision having a shared apartment close to the beach with great restaurants and bars nearby.

I am doing lots of google searches and am experienced with travel but feeling overwhelmed deciding in between the two. I want to strike a balance of them seeing some great European towns/villages, but also soaking in the charm of Spain in a more authentic way without running around trying to see everything.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!!!

Others can help you with the cultural aspects of the decision. I want to give you a resource for investigating the weather you're likely to encounter. Although Granada and especially Malaga shouldn't be as hot as Seville would be (I'm not sure about Ronda), southern Spain is hot in the summer. Hot enough to seriously affect one's enjoyment of being outside, unless one is in the water.

I like to investigate actual, historical, day-by-day weather statistics on the website timeanddate.com for the most recent five years before committing to a potentially risky destination.

Weather Granada -- June 2023

Weather Malaga -- June 2023

Weather Valencia -- June 2023

Weather Alicante -- June 2023

It's important to check additional years, because weather varies a lot. Use the pull-down box at the right, just above the graph to change the month and year displayed.

Ah you make an excellent point! So Valencia and Alicante seem to have much better weather around the time we would be going!

For where you’re flying into and out of, the Costa Blanca makes more sense, but it will mostly likely be very busy and crowded. A stretch of coast that may be a little less crowded is the Costa Cálida. It is essentially the area between Cartagena and Almería.
