Andalusia Itinerary Question

Hi all, my partner and I are going to be spending the last 2 weeks of April in Spain, flying into and out of Madrid. The general plan is to spend a couple days in Madrid, then take the train to Córdoba (and spend a few days there), take the bus from Córdoba to Granada (spending a couple days there), then go somewhere on the coast, probably by bus, and then head back to Madrid. I have spent some time in and around Almería, though was with a friend with a car and did not have to do any logistical planning. I'd like to make it to a spot or two on the Mediterranean during the trip, with scenery being top priority (nightlife and gastronomy lowest priority), but I'm not sure what the best bus or train routes are from Granada, and whether we should then travel back to Madrid through Granada or take a different route back. In sum, I'm looking to fill out the last bit of our trip between Granada and Madrid, with a detour that takes us somewhere scenic along the costa calida, costa blanca, or costa de Almería. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Can't help with the coast beyond saying that you're smart to ask here, because there are a lot of really ticky-tacky beach towns down there.

I'm curious about the omission of Seville, though. That's on virtually every traveler's Andalucía hit list.

You could take a bus from Granada to Nerja. From there take another one to Malaga where you can get the train to Madrid. We always go to Mojacar, but that's on the other side of Almeria.

I absolutely loved Mojácar when I visited it last, and would go again. I'd love to go either there or to a similarly sized town. I'm just not sure what the best way to get there would be, whether we should take a bus there and back from Granada, or go via another larger city? If we could take a bus from Granada I'm imagining we could stop at Guadix on the way, then take a bus from Mojácar to Madrid to complete our circuit. When you've visited Mojácar, how did you get there? Did you rent a car or are there any particular bus companies/routes you'd recommend?

Well, we lived in Mojacar for many years so we always had a car. Now when we visit,, we fly into Madrid or Almeria and pick up a rental car. I suppose you could take a bus from Granada to Almeria and then another to Mojacar. Yes, then a bus to Madrid. Not really familiar with the buses since we always use cars. We love Mojacar and can't think of a better beach town. A few years ago we made a tour of other towns we knew from the past and were very turned off by them.

Sorry about that second post. I'm new here, a refugee from Fodors where my handle was Bedar, a town up above Mojacar.
