Andalusia Adventure

Visiting Spain for a little more two weeks in the beginning of September for a roadtrip through Andalusia. Planning to stop in many places - Granada, Ronda, Sentinel de las Bodegas, Tarifa, Tangier, Cadiz and Seville. Our flight home is from Malaga.

Will have an open day between Cadiz and Seville and another between Seville and Malaga. Was thinking of going to Cordoba after leaving Seville....and spending a day trip there before moving onto Malaga. What do you suggest for the day between Cadiz and Seville? Not much into horses or sherry, so I think Jerez is probably off the table. Arcos? Something else?

Very interested in hearing what experienced travelers suggest....and if you have ideas beyond the obvious in my other stops, please feel free to throw them out there too.

Thanks in advance

How many nights are you planning to stay in each city? You might be able to do some cities (like Cordoba) as a day trip, instead of moving hotels again.

Ditto--I would want to see the full plan to comment. I think an overnight in Cordoba is almost always a good idea. For Sevilla-Cadiz, the one night could probably be well sued for a day trip from one or the other.

Flying to Europe evening of 8/30 and home from Malaga morning of 9/14

Cities and towns being visited with (n) sleep nights. If no (n) is listed we’re planning to stop there on our way to the next sleep town. I know it’s a lot of movement but I am traveling with two people who’ve never been to Spain before so we want to cover a lot of ground in a short time. They’re very interested in Moorish and Roman sites. Starting in BCN because I love it and that’s how the flights worked best.

Barcelona (2) 8/31 - 9/2 flight to Granada
Granada (2) 9/2 - 9/4
Sentinel de las Bodegas 9/4
Ronda 9/4
Tarifa (2) 9/4 -9/6
Tangier, Morocco (1) 9/6 - 9/7
Cadiz (2) 9/7 - 9/9
Arcos de la Frontera 9/9
Seville (3) 9/9 - 9/12
Cordoba 9/12
Malaga (2) 9/12 - 9/14

Flying home 9/14

In my opinion, that's way too much traveling. I understand wanting to see a lot of things, but taking into account how much time you will be spending in the car, you will not end up seeing much of anything.

I don't think spending 3 nights, in effect, to get a day in Tangier is a great use of your limited time. I'd suggest using that time in Barcelona, Seville and Cordoba instead.

acraven - we're really not spending 3 days just to see Tangier. We're actually looking forward to Tarifa - it's a beautiful place to wind down and relax. The Tarifa Fair will be happening while we're there and we may do a little wind-surfing while admiring AFRICA across the strait. Plus - it's a way to allow my brother and his son to set foot on a new continent for the first time.

Take a look at Rick's tours....a lot of them have 1,2, or 3 day stops in five or more places. I agree with you on the fast pace....but we're fulfilling several bucket list items while eating great food and enjoying the Andalusian countryside by car.

That's the schedule - and I am looking for stuff to do between Cadiz and Seville - & - Seville and Malaga (if not just sticking with Cordoba).

I could have spent 2 full days easily in Cordoba, so I don’t think you need to plan for more stops.

I also loved Sevilla so much that I’d vote for getting there sooner and taking in an experience like a cooking class or something vs a second stop on the way there.

Morocco is wonderful but deserves a dedicated trip. Last September, we enjoyed Cordoba, Sevilla, Tarifa, and Malaga. Would have skipped Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera, but loved the El Caminito del Rey walk. The Alhambra, and Granada are worthwhile but, for us, did not compare with the Mezquita. Happy planning!
