Andalusia - 2 weeks from October 23 to and November 6

Hello - We have six nights planned in Seville and then will have a car for stays in Cazalla (1), Grazalema (1), Vejer (4), Sanlúcar (1), before dropping off the car in Seville. Friends are joining us in the evening of Day 3 for the balance of the trip.
Day 1 - Arrive in Seville around noon, get settled in, low-key sightseeing
Day 2 - Seville, AM walking tour, PM cooking class
Day 3 - Seville, Naval or other Museum, lunchtime tapas tour. Friends arrive 6 pm, have dinner, wander and shop
Day 4 - Seville, 9 AM Cathedral Rooftop Tour, then TBD (cannot add Real Alcazar here as it is Sunday)
Day 5 - Seville, TBD, perhaps Real Alcazar, wandering, flamenco show
Day 6 - Seville, TBD, perhaps a day trip to Cordoba Mezquita
Day 7 to 13 - Pick up car for stays in Cazalla de la Sierra (1), Grazalema (1), Vejer (4), Sanlúcar de Barrameda (1)
Day 14 - drive to Seville in afternoon and return the car
Day 15 - depart

I am struggling with Days 4, 5, and 6 (particularly since reservations are suggested for Cordoba and Real Alcazar). Are we packing too much into those days? We also want to enjoy the atmosphere in Seville, to wander and shop in Triana, Plaza del Espana, and Alameda de Hércules.

Thoughts on this itinerary and Days 4, 5, and 6?
At this time of year, could we decide last-minute to go to the Cordoba Mezquita or the Seville Real Alcazar?

It’s best use use complete town names so others know specifically which place you’re referring to. For example, I assume you mean Cazalla de la Sierra as opposed to Cazalla near Murcia, and Sanlúcar de Barrameda as opposed to Sanlúcar la Guadiana or Sanlúcar la Mayor.

Maybe cut a day from Sevilla and drive to Córdoba between Cazalla de la Sierra and Grazalema. You could then spend a night in Córdoba rather than day trip from Sevilla. At that time of year I feel you could make a last minute decision to visit the Mezquita and Alcázar. If doing the Sevilla Alcázar then I’d get there early. If you’re referring to the Alcázar de Córdoba, you could probably just walk up and get tickets.

To me, four nights is a lot for Vejer de la Frontera, but I have no idea what you plan to do in the small towns. It seems you will engage in outdoors type activities given the towns you mention. If that’s the case you may want to allot more time. I say that because if you can’t check in to your lodging until 3pm and need to check out by 11am, you’re not leaving much time for outdoorsy activities. Keep in mind that sunset will be around 6pm. Your itinerary doesn’t leave a lot of wiggle room for those one night stays. On our 2024 trip we spent one night at the Parador de Gredos, but after arriving and finding out about all the walking trails, we wish we had another night there.

On a good note your daily driving time will only be about two hours.

I'd be nervous without a reservation for the Alcazar in Seville as well as the Cathedral there. That comment is based on my April 2019 visit, but it was during Holy Week, which I realize is a special situation. Still, those lines for ticket purchase were really long, and I'd rather spend that hour (?) doing something more interesting.

I might be able to help you for Vejer if you let me know what you want to so and see, and if you are interested in restaurants. Where are you staying: In the town itself? Parking is tricky but certainly you will find a spot......

If you want restaurant ideAs, let me know. Also look at a drive to Baelo Claudia and lunch after your visit there...

Great suggestions, everyone, I appreciate your knowledge! And thank you for the reminder about specific place-names. I have edited my post.

For Sevilla, we decided to make reservations for the Real Alcázar on Day 5 and leave Day 6 open for flexibility. I agree we should spend the night in Córdoba...so that will be on another trip. We are going to keep our "off the beaten track" day in Sierra Norte de Sevilla, visiting the local distilleries and wineries in the area and spending the night in Cazalla de la Sierra.

ekscrunchy - I am really looking forward to our four nights in Vejer de la Frontera! We probably won't arrive until late afternoon after sightseeing our way from Grazalema, so we will really only have three days in the area. We are staying at La Casa del Califa and have pre-booked parking. We have scheduled a walking tour+tapas/sherry tour with Carlos of Explore la Tierra. Our list of options in the area does include Baelo Claudia, plus Montenmedio Contemporánea Fondation, beach walks, Cádiz, and possibly more wine and sherry tasting. I would love restaurant ideas, from hole-in-the-wall to moderate. Our travel companions are not foodies!

We love the white hilltop town of Vejer and have stayed twice, for two weeks on one occasion. We stayed at La Casa del Califa. It's a charming labyrinth of rooms and staircases. The vistas from the hotel rooftop bar for pre-dinner drinks are magical. If you have the opportunity I suggest dining at the hotel restaurant, El Jardines del Califa, well worth it just for the stunning Moroccan courtyard setting. We also enjoyed dining at El Central in Vejer.

Well be back in January, cant keep away.

I'd swap one of the four nights in Vejer for a night in Cordoba.
You don't need to pre-book the Mezquita a lot in advance.
You do need to book the Alcazar in Sevilla well in advance (or at least keep an eye if tickets are getting sold out)

Just a note … your lunchtime tapas tour may fill you up so much that you don’t want much dinner!

Oh, my goodness! Plenty of time for a night or two in Cordoba. The Mezquita is extraordinary and not to be missed.

In Vejer itself, I recommend NAREA. they have a very reasonable tasting menu and a la carte as well.

From Vejer, just down the hill in the hamlet of Santa Lucia, definitely go to LA CASTELLERIA. Must book ahead. Make sure they are open in October. If they are, it's a must. It's known for meat but their salads are about the best I've ever had. anywhere. And their grilled artichokes.....oh, my!!

If you want to drive a half an hour to Barbate, go to EL CAMPERO; famous throughout Europe for their tuna but they have all fish, meat, etc etc. This restaurant Is well known to Japanese as well as to many europeans....it's lovely. I eat at the bar but there are more formal dining areas as well.......great value for the quality.
