Hi.
My wife and I will be in Malaga, Spain, for a conference in October. After it is over, we will have 4 days of free time. While I am a history buff, my wife isn't. So instead of seeing the famous Moorish architecture and palaces, she wants to spend some time at glass blowing shops and other local places. We think Gibraltar would be nice to visit too. Should we take less time in Malaga in order to spend a day in Seville or Granada or Cordoba? Should we rent a car or take public transportation? Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks.
Would it help if you tell her that the palaces are art, not history? They're quite impressive in any category and real masterpieces of handcraft.
Thanks for your suggestion. She is probably tired of any architecture after seeing Istanbul several times, Munich once, and Barcelona once. She prefers eating the local food and experiencing the back street shops and culture, rather standing in line to visit a museum or a palace. She is looking to enjoy her time rather driving to major tourist sites like the Alhambra in Granada and then traveling to Cordoba and Seville. Thanks again.
She might enjoy time in Old Town Marbella.
You might also get in touch with Emily at South Ole Spain Tours. Tell her what you are trying to accomplish, that you will have 4 days, and see if she can help you out. She can arrange wine tastings, olive grove tours, etc., and she likely would know where there are craft artists, etc.
Emily is an American who fell in love with Spain, now lives there and runs South Ole Spain Tours. While she offers group tours, she also designs custom packages or experiences. Her prices are very reasonable, her organization and follow-up is incredible.
We used her company for a one-day journey (private driver) from Granada, to Ronda (time to explore and lunch), to Gibraltar (with a fabulous private guided tour), and then on to Marbella, where we stayed overnight.
