Andalucia itinerary help

I will be traveling in March (next month!) in Andalucia and am hoping for recommendations on where to stay for a short visit. My husband and I only have 6 nights for the region and then I will have an additional 3 nights to continue exploring on my own. I had originally thought we could do 2 nights each in Seville, Cordoba, and Granada, but I think this may be too much moving around. My questions:
1) If we opted to use one or two places as a base, which town would you suggest? If you were going to cut one of them out, which would you drop? ( and hope to return another time?)
2) Where would you recommend for my solo explorations?

thank you for your input!

For your 6 nights you could do 3-4 nights Seville and daytrip to Cordoba (no need to change hotels, it's an easy daytrip). The remaining 2-3 nights in Granada.

Where are you flying into and out of?

I'm arriving into Madrid, where I'll be for 3 nights. Then meeting the hubby in Sevilla.

I don't have a flight home booked yet because I'm still deciding where I'll go after our 6 days together. I've just retired so I have the luxury of a completely open schedule.

Two nights equals one full day. Consider 3 nights in each Sevilla and Córdoba. With your additional 3 nights you could go to Granada, or head back towards Madrid and spend a couple nights in Toledo with a final night in Madrid, close to the airport.

With additional nights you could also head to Mérida for a couple nights and return to Sevilla for the return flight.

Yet another option would be to go to Cádiz for a couple nights and spend your final night in Jerez de la Frontera, flying out of its airport to Madrid. You’d need to connect to an international in Madrid.

For the 6 nights with your husband, I would do 3 nights in Seville, 1 night in Cordoba and 2 nights in Granada. This way your husband gets to see and experience the 3 jewels of Andalucia: the cities themselves, and including the Royal Alcazar in Seville, the Mezquita in Cordoba, and the Alhambra in Granada.

Or another possibility is 4 nights in Seville with a daytrip to Cordoba, and then 2 nights in Granada.

Malaga is a wonderful place to explore on your own. And about 1.5 hours by bus from Granada. So close by. Lots to see and do in Malaga.

Another idea for your final 3 nights: Valencia. I haven't been (yet) but have looked into it for a future trip.

Thank you all for the suggestions - it's always so helpful to hear perspectives and see what has worked for others. (love that trip report Geoff!)

Since the train from Sevilla to Granada goes via Cordoba, we'll stay in the bookend cities, with a daytime stop in Cordoba on the way. We've done this in other countries, using the luggage storage vendors for just a few $$'s. We've got our tickets for the Alhambra - working now on all the smaller but just as important details.
I'll continue exploring the coastal towns before flying to Naples, where I'm booked for a week long hiking/exploring trip based out of an agriturismo on the Amalfi Coast. Really looking forward to this trip!

Diane,

For 6 days you can base yourself and husband in Seville Spain. Seville is a wonderful city with mild weather, stunning archictecture, a city known for flamenco dance, rich in culture, a walkable city, and a city with a great gastronomy (excellent restaurants and tapas bars). From Seville, you have the option to day trip to Jerez de la Frontera, Cordoba, and Cadiz by fast speed train.

Then once the 6 days are up, you can continue your journey in Andalusia for 3 days by staying in Malaga Spain. Malaga is another gem of a city in Andalusia. Malaga is a very vibrant city with so many activities to do. You also have the options to take a day trip to any of these nearby towns such as Mijas, Frigiliana and Ronda. You can fly out of Malaga airport to go home. Malaga has an international airport.

What do you think Diane?
