I am currently trying to buy tickets to the Alhambra on May 11th. From mid-March through Mid-April, the general tickets on the main website show as unavailable. I decided to online live chat with the site to see if the website was down. They basically dodged my question about the unavailable general ticket dates and told me to look at Dobla de Oro General tickets which includes several other things we're not interested in at a 6 euro more price difference. Has anyone else encountered this? Is the Dobla de Oro ticket basically the same as the general ticket but with access to more options? The live chat also suggested that I would be assigned a time to visit the Palacios Nazaries instead of being able to choose a time. I can't be booking too late, as I'm still 2 months out! Please help!!
Unfortunately you may be too late. This is the most visited site in Spain by both locals and tourists. Booking six months out is not uncommon. Time to visit the Palace is assigned to 30 minute windows. And they are rigid on the time. You might check with your hotel as they have access to a certain number of tickets for guests. We booked through out hotel because we were within two months around Christmas/New Years and it was packed.
Unfortunately, the basic Alhambra tickets are sold out on the official website through May 14 with the single exception of May 12. The Alhambra is very popular, and tickets sell out very fast.
You may be able to obtain tickets through your hotel (at an upcharge), or you could take a tour that includes Alhambra entrance.
I don't know anything about the Dobla de Oro tickets, which are still available for your date. That would probably be your least expensive option, but I understand your timing concern.
Someone recently was able to buy a Granada Card and use that avenue to obtain tickets for the desired date, but I don't know anything about that process.
This is the official site in English;
https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/
The tickets for May 11 are sold out. That is possible.
It is also possible on the chat that the person did not understand fluently English and was not dodging your question.
You can read about the "Dobla de Oro" ticket here.
It looks like this is a viable option if you want to visit the Alhambra on May 11th.
As aforementioned, the "General Alhambra" tickets are already sold out for the first two weeks of May.
Another option is to buy a Granada Card but you must check to see if there are entry times to the Nasrid Palaces available for your dates.
For future reference only... Alhambra tickets may be booked online 3 months in advance.
Enjoy your trip!
Edited to add:
The website sited above for the Granada Card is presently having technical issues and the sales calendar is only available till April 30th.
Does anyone know why I keep getting this error: " You have reached the limit of allowed purchases per person and month." on the https://tickets.alhambra-patronato.es/en/ website? I have never purchased tickets there before. I have tried two web browsers and my phone. They won't answer the chat online - I have emailed but no answer. Trying to book in late May - it shows availability but won't let me complete the process.
@marksneed The same exact thing is happening with me! I've emailed and tried to chat, too! No response! I emailed our hotel to see if they could book us a guided tour (not our choice as it's more expensive, but I at least want a ticket!) and they said they can't because the website is having problems. If you're able to get an answer, will you post back on here so I can book, too? I'll do the same if I get a response/am able to book.
Thanks @mcguijc! I will let you know if/when I hear something.
Just ask the hotel for tickets. Don't need to book a guide tour through the hotel. This was a similar problems a couple of years ago so I just called the hotel. Got us four ticket. Actually, the hotel reserved the ticket and we had to get them at the ticket window but there was no mark up. That was a couple of years ago so things can and do change.
@marksneed I got through on the online chat! The reason it was blocking me on step 3 is that the ID portion it asks for a form of ID. I was selecting the alternate ID and then typing in the actual word "passport". It needed my actual passport number instead of the word "passport". It let me proceed once I did that! See if that works for you! If not, maybe you can reach them through online chat, too!
Just had the same problem... the chat is offline..if anyone has solved this please post I am not staying at a hotel but an Airbnb so no help there.. I am trying to book for May 14 or 15 we will go with Dobla de Oro as for 10 extra euro I want an earlier time to see the Palace
Barbara,
You should be able to book your “Dobla de Oro” tickets on the Alhambra website for May 14 or 15. The earliest time to visit the Nasrid Palaces is at 1:30pm on the 14th, and 2pm on the 15th.
Enjoy your time in Spain!
THat was helpful... yes we did not put in our passport numbers because we are away but in the US so don't have our passports!! They cannot do anything about that so I am stuck:( The person on the chat said that we could buy from an agency authorized to sell (at twice the price) but they would hold the tickets until we could supply the passport number. Unless anyone else has any ideas for me I think that may be my only option.
i wont be home till march 19 that may be too late
Barbara,
I just attempted to "buy" 2 Dobla de Oro General tickets for the Alhambra and was able to fill all the information up till the payment part.
You don't need your passport number. I used my driver's license number, but make sure you choose "other Id".
Hope this helps!
I sent you a PM
@mcguijc THANK YOU!! That worked! Of course it would say "You have reached the limit of allowed purchases per person and month." instead of "Please input your passport number"! :-) Enjoy your trip!
I have had the same problem trying to book for the 15th of July. The tickets weren't released up until 1 April and then I also got the "You have reached the limit of allowed purchases per person and month." message. Reading this page, I thought the tickets had been sold out already and my heart sank. I tried again - using the Spanish page and it worked. So either I was making teh sam emistake over and over again on teh English page - or the Spanish page works better than the English one (it was probably the former - and I suspect it was something to do with how I had entered my address). I hope you managed to get your tickets.
PS I have now received my booking confirmation by email however they are in Spanish (probably because I used the Spanish page to book them). From previous web based research regarding Alhambra tickets, I was under the impression that you had to convert your emailed booking into an access ticket at a Caixabank as the Alhambra entry staff won't accept the emailed booking reference as a ticket. But my email confirmation has a pdf attachment with a QR code and Google has translated it as saying "THIS IS AN ENTRANCE !!
The "print at home" entry that you have purchased has the following conditions of use. Present it directly in the places of access and control where it is required."
Which sound a lot more like a ticket than a confirmation.
Does anyone know whether you still have to convert the booking confirmation into a ticket - or have things now changed and is the email attachment the ticket?

Unfortunately, Google translate doesn’t always translate correctly or it only gives you a literal translation.
The word, “Entrada”, can mean an entrance or an entry, or a ticket which allows you to enter.
To answer your question...
If you booked your Alhambra ticket online and you received a pdf containing a QR code, then that is your “ticket” and there’s no need to exchange it at the Alhambra.
As far as I understand, the only time you’d need to collect your tickets at the Alhambra is if you’ve ordered discounted tickets, and therefore, will need to show ID as proof.
You may confirm this by asking your question on the Alhambra on-line chat. Scroll all the way up to find this “on-line chat”
Here’s a very helpful website: Granadainfo.com
Enjoy your trip!
Edited to add...
I remember reading somewhere that one needs to show their passport prior to entering the Nasrid Palaces.
Hopefully someone who has been to the Alhambra recently (after October 2017) can attest to this new rule.
