Alhambra

Hi ,

We're looking to buy tickets to Alhambra in October. Interested in doing the visit on our own, but are there any audio guides available ? Read about the option of buying audio guides at Alhambra . Any idea if this is still valid? Or any suggestions on if a guided tour is required?

Thanks!
Shreya

We just came back after our visit. Audio guides are available at the main gate and near Charles V Palace. They cost us €6 each. You have to pay by credit card and return where you picked them up

We found it useful since none of the rooms in the Nasirid Palace had any descriptions.

I would second the comments about the audio guides. Plan on at least a half day.

Calcuttan- that was very helpful. Thank you! Would prefer the audio guides over a full fledged guided tour which seem to be much more expensive!

Frank - we'll go for the option you suggested. Thank you!

Does anyone know whether audioguides are available at the Justice Gate?

Audio guides (and maps) are only at the main entrance. While a "live" guide will enhance just about any sight, I think the audio guide does a good job and most of the enjoyment for me was the sheer beauty, not the history.

well, there seems to be a disagreement of information, as one says audioguides can be rented at Charles Palace (which is closer to Justice Gate) and another says only at main entrance......
I would have preferred to get info from the official website, there is audioguide info here:
http://granadainfo.com/alhambra/audioguides.htm
There also seems to be an app for this from iTunes. Not sure if available for Android, nor do I know if it is as comprehensive as the audioguides.

Maria, what I remember is that there is a snack bar/shop just to the north (I think) of Charles Palace. Literally across the path in front of Charles Palace and near the waiting area for the Nasirid palace entrance. We rented ours at the main gate so we were not looking for them but perhaps they can be rented at that location.

In March, they were also available near the Justice Gate (closer to the line for the Nasrid Palace). It did seem like you needed to return them to the location where you rented them, which is not really convenient. But I am not sure about that part.

Frank, and you are correct that there are two locations - at least as per the article I cited.

They are available near the Justice Gate. That is the entrance we used and then picked up the guides in front of the Charles V Palace

When you buy a granada card (which includes the Alhambra), do you have to chose the date you plan to visit it? Or can you reserve the date separately with the Alhambra office? It's good to see they no longer split the visits in two each day.It is much more sensible because it means visitors can be spaced out over the whole day instead of crowded into one morning session or one afternoon session.
