Algeciras or La Línea de la Concepción for Gibraltar visit

I would be most likely be coming in from Granada, if not than Nerja. Should I spend 2 nights in Algeciras or La Línea de la Concepción. I know the latter is closer to Gibraltar but I really liked trains and Algeciras has a station.

After Gibraltar, I would like to take the train to Ronda.

If Gibraltar is the goal, then stay right there in La Linea. You can walk across the border, go through passport control, and take a bus up to wherever you want to go in Gibraltar. Easy!
Further, the train won't get you as close to the border as staying in La Linea will or even taking a bus from a La Linea hotel to the border. Have a great trip.

If the train goes to (stops at) Algeciras to get to Gibraltar and then go through it again to get to Ronda, to me Algeciras makes more sense. By staying there you wouldn’t have to lug your luggage on a bus. It’s 20km (12mi) from Gibraltar and there is bus service. It is also a little larger than La Línea de la Concepción. The advantage of La Línea is its proximity to the rock. From most places in town a 20-25 minutes walk gets you to the border. In my opinion neither town has much to offer so it’s really a matter of personal preference.

Back when I lived in Spain La Línea was the closest one could get to Gibraltar. Spain and the UK were at odds so the border was closed. To get to Gibraltar one had to go over to Morocco then come back to it.

Yeah, in order for me to get to La Línea from Granada, I have to transfer in Algeciras anyways. I checked rome2rio for options from Algeciras to Gibraltar and it says bus is hour long that doesn't seem right, I figured it would be shorter.

A bus should take you about 20 minutes. Check out the bus schedule. It shows time for busses going in each direction. The top of the page is going (ida) while the return (vuelta) to Algeciras is beneath it. You can download the timetable as a pdf. Here’s a different link that states where the bus station is in La Línea and its hours. A one-way ticket is €1.50.
