Alcazar Tickets

Hello,

My mother and I are traveling to Spain in June of this summer, and we've been using the 2018 Rick Steves book to help plan our trip. In the book, the price for a general ticket to the Alcazar is listed as $9.50, but when I go on the website that Rick lists (www.alcazarsevilla.org) the same ticket seems to be 18.50 euro. Am I looking at the wrong website? Is there a better option for purchasing tickets? And do I even need to be booking in advance online, or is it better to purchase in person, even in the height of summer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I was just there, book online as soon as the site allows you to.
Perhaps others can address your other questions.

I see what you mean. The pricing page says 11.50 euros for the ground floor (but only 2 euros for seniors) and 4.50 euros extra for the Royal Apartments, but the ticketing page gives much higher prices when you click through. Perhaps they've just increased the entry fees and the website isn't fully updated yet. It seems that the 18.50 charge includes the audioguide and a 1-euro online ticketing fee.

Definitely buy tickets in advance. The line was really bad when I was in Seville last month. I was there during Holy Week, but I had read enough warnings about the situation (from people who had not visited during Holy Week) that I wasn't surprised to see the line. I was able to buy my ticket online a couple of days before my visit to the Alcazar, but I don't think all time slots were available, and the Royal Apartments were sold out for the entire period of my stay and perhaps way beyond. If you're not interested in the Royal Apartments (or if you'd like to see them but they're already sold out for your travel dates), I don't think you need to buy immediately unless you're boxed in and need a specific date and time.

My husband and I visited Alcazar in April and we did purchase the tickets ahead of time. I would agree with the others that it is a good idea in order to avoid the lines. We also booked the Cuarto Real Alto tour which was especially delightful because of the limited size of the group. By the way, in the Rick Steves 2019 Spain guide, he does list 12.50/17.50 euros as costs. When I was booking tickets online, it was a bit confusing, but then I noticed in front of the amount they used the word "from", so that might be the difference in prices. ( "from" 1 euro). Hope that makes sense. Wishing you a safe and wonderful journey.

Hi,
Good luck booking with them. For me All was clunky but OK until it came time for them to send me an email with the tickets. Never arrived. But they did manage to bill my $22.50.

Make sure you get the go ahead from your credit card immediately before trying to buy the tickets or you might get rejected and have to start from the beginning again. Something about Spain made my go to travel cards skitish about allowing me to make purchases in Spain while still at home. And this includes both their national airline, rail line and the Alhambra.
