The best way to purchase tickets in advance

Hopefully, someone that's been there will give us some information. I am going in November. My hotel provided this website. http://www.alcazarsevilla.org/english-version/ There are a number of options. Apparently, there are reduced tickets for retirees. I am retired, but under 60, does that count? Also, what are peoples' thoughts and experience with the audio guide and of a tour of the upper royal palace apartments? What is the best time to go? I do know that to visit the upper royal apartments, a ticket time before 1:30 is required.

Hi Linda!

I am excited for your upcoming trip to Sevilla and visit to the Real Alcazar. My husband and I were just there in late May of this year and it was an amazing trip! I tried to purchase our tickets to the palace ahead of time, but their website would not take our VISA card (this seems to be an issue for others as well). I was sad that we would not be able to see the upper apartments, but it is what it is. We ended going to the Real Alcazar on our first day in the city (around 9am) and waited in line for about an hour (it really was not that bad). My husband opted for the audioguide, but tired of it after awhile. I personally think that doing a little pre-research ahead of time on the history and layout of the palace and using the RS book is all you'll really need or want. There were a lot of people there and taking pictures of the beautiful rooms was a bit of a challenge, so if I had to do it all over again, I would visit around 1 or 2pm. The lines were much smaller and the tour groups are sure to have finished earlier in the day. If you do get tickets for the upper apartments, perhaps choose a noon timed entry so that the crowds start to thin out by the time you get to the rest of the palace.

We are also retired and under 60, but we did not pursue the reduced fee tickets. For some reason I was thinking that it applied to residents rather than visitors, but I could be totally wrong on that count (there is no mention of other rates in the current RS Spain book). The website might give more specifics.

If you have any questions about things to see in Sevilla or day trips options (we managed to add 3 of these), please feel free to send me a private message. I hope this was somewhat helpful and wish you a fabulous time!!!

We visited a month ago. I purchased tickets online thru the website. The line was incredibly long and at our designated time, we were able to go to the left of the waiting line and enter. I’m 65 and my spouse is 61. I purchased senior tickets for both of us with no issues. I don’t remember where but we encountered one location which would only honor age 65 for discounted tickets.

Definitely buy tix online. I suggest using a Mastercard rather than Visa. We had trouble using visa for online tix throughout Spain. MasterCard worked fine!

Good suggestion Ellen. Interestingly enough, LLBean has switched from having VISA as its credit card to Mastercard. I wasn't a fan of the switch, but now it sounds like it could work for me. I also got to thinking that now I have AMEX, VISA and Mastercard and perhaps it is good to have a variety of credit cards.
