Im looking into booking tickets for the Alcazar and Royal apartments. Should I tour the Royal Apartments first and then tour the rest of the Alcazar or the Alcazar grounds and go to apartments last?
I don’t think it matters that much. The tour of the Royal Apartments is at a fixed time and you can’t be late. For that reason, I would suggest earlier in your visit to relieve any anxiety about being on time for the tour. And the tour of the Apartments is time limited. You are escorted from room to room. No lingering.
I toured the apartments first, probably about 30 minutes after arriving. I agree with the above that it doesn’t really matter, but the apartment entrance is near the main entrance. There are rooms and exhibits to see close to the main entrance before arriving at the apartments. Those sites can keep you close to the apartment entrance so you can easily arrive the 15 minutes in advance of the timed admittance.
I got lost when looking through the other areas and grounds of the Alcazar! I felt ridiculous until I ran into two other sets of travelers similarly confused. I was very glad as I wandered around looking for the exit that I had already (and easily) found the apartment entrance and had my tour.
Rick’s map was helpful for finding the apartment entrance. It is marked, but helpful to know where to look; some miss it. I tried to follow the Alcazar’s audio/visual guide for the rest of my visit and found that less helpful. I guess I forgot to check back to Rick’s map for orientation when I was lost!
Thank you all for the responses. Great tip on the map!
Enjoy your visit, Sue. I particularly enjoyed the Royal Apartments tour and felt it added a lot to my visit.
