We are staying in Aix for four or five days and want to go to Bilbao and Madrid. We will end this trip flying out of Madrid.
Should we go to Madrid and then travel to Bilbao and back to Madrid, or try to go to Bilbao first and then go to Madrid for a few days and fly home?

Seems like the most logical thing is to fly from Marseille to Madrid. Renting a car in Madrid would be my personal option so I could visit Pamplona and then when you are in Bilbao you could visit some of the other Basque cities.
