It was unremarkable. I would fly them again if the schedule and price were right--they have great sales.

Iberia is fine. From where I live, it's a choice between Iberia and American for direct flights to Spain, and I always choose Iberia.

Just double check if you're flying Iberia or their budget carrier, Level. I was in the process of booking Iberia tickets and saw a note that food wouldn't be provided on the trip from NYC to Barcelona. That clued me into the fact that it was Level! I still booked the flight, and it was fine (and they actually gave a small breakfast on the way back). Just FYI!

I fly Iberia a few times a year and have nothing negative to say, They code share with American,, so if you don't want to fly Iberia and, instead, book with American, make sure whose flight it actually is.

I was scheduled to fly Iberia to Barcelona April of 2024 out of Boston. My flight was cancelled and they never notified me. I found out when I was 30 min from the airport when I checked if the flight was leaving on time. I immediately got on the phone with them. For one thing , the accents of the agents were very difficult to understand and they told me we were booked to fly out the next day and had a very long layover at JFK. This was completely unacceptable to me as there was a flight to Barcelona from Boston on British Airways that was delayed and was leaving in a few hours.
I got back on the phone and asked them to rebook my husband , my daughter and myself on this flight which they said they would do. I then went up to the B.A. counter and I was told that Iberia had only rebooked me. I called again and they said they would change it but 1 of us would be flying from London to Barcelona on a separate flight. This whole process including them promising me a return phone call ( which never materialized) took 3 hours! When we arrived in London, we had missed the connecting flight since the 1st flight was delayed. B.A. then rebooked all 3 of us on the same later flight.
We flew back to Boston from Madrid. but there were multiple Iberia check in counters which was incredibly confusing. We actually were in the wrong line at 1st.
Bottom line dealing with Iberia is a nightmare nowadays . My husband and I used them on our honeymoon 40 years ago and had no problems, but I suppose as is true with many businesses today good customer service is sorely lacking. Not to mention we had issues getting reimbursed $1800 but did receive it via a direct deposit eventually.

No. My trip was in March 2022. I flew round trip to and from Madrid. I traveled on American Airlines. For travel to other countries: starting with my third plane flight in my adult life, I have bought almost all my tickets from American or Delta. On at least two of those trips, it took more than one flight to get to my destination and buying my trip from American or Delta included a ticket on another airline. Iberia was not one of the other airlines. I don't have experience buying tickets from another airline. I am open to buying tickets from another airline in the unlikely chance that buying from another airline offers a better combination of price versus departure times versus layover times than American or Delta. If buying from another airline would include more than one flight to my destination and one of the flights would be on American or Delta, it would be as good or better to just buy the ticket from American or Delta. If I was going to fly from one city to another city in Spain and then spend time in Spain before going back to Michigan (or fly from one city outside the USA to another city outside the USA and then spend time outside the USA before flying back to Michigan), I would obviously buy my ticket from Iberia or another Europe-based or foreign airline.

Edit: I took a flight within Peru and then spent more time in Peru: obviously I bought that ticket from the foreign airline; the country wasn't Spain but it was a flight from one foreign place to another foreign place and then spending time in the second place before going back to Michigan. If was going straight from the first city to Michigan without spending time in the second city in Peru, I would have bought my tickets from American or Delta because there would be at least two flights, and the last one or two flights would be on American or Delta and American or Delta would just include the ticket for the first flight on whatever foreign airline.

Iberia code shares with American. So if you buy on AA you may well fly on Iberia metal, and vice versa. Check prices on both.
