I have a trip planned for March. We're going to Seville. I've started looking at airline tickets. We're connecting in Miami and Madrid on the way over. I've found a convenient flight, with layovers of about 3-1/2 hours in each stop. So far, so good.
But when I move on to select my returning flight, that's when things go haywire. I cannot find a convenient return trip. The layovers are either incredibly short, like 1 hour and 10 minutes in Madrid, or incredibly long, like 15 hours in Newark. Of course, it doesn't have to be Madrid and Newark, it can be any two cities, but I don't want to miss a connection on the one hand, or have to spend a day in an airport on the other hand.
I've made many trips to Europe, and I can't remember ever having this situation. If I'm flying Seville to Madrid to United States, or Seville to Lisbon to United States, can we make that connection in Madrid or Lisbon when it is less than an hour and a half? Anyone ever done that connection?
I wouldn't risk Madrid in an hour and a half. We flew out of there this past August and it took TWO HOURS from the time we walked into the airport to the time we got to the gate! And we were moving the entire time. I have never seen such an incredibly geographically large airport!!
I agree about MAD, but did you compare with taking the train--it IS an inconvenience because you will need to be in Madrid the last night before flying out of there, but the fast train is more pleasant than waiting in an airport.
Yeah, Valadelphia, I think you have the answer. We already have an apartment reservation in Seville, and at the end of that, we'll just move to Madrid. Get a hotel, spend a few days there, and come home from there. I looked up open jaw flights, and there is no upcharge for doing that. And it takes all the stress out of trying to make that connection in Madrid.
