Aiguestortes National Park - Early April

My husband and I are going to Aiguestortes National Park in early April, and are wanting to hike. Our plan is to stay in the park two nights. From the limited research I've done, I've heard that the weather conditions are unpredictable at that time, and most likely there will be snow.

I had a couple questions -

(1) What is the weather like in early April?
(2) If it's snowing, then are we able to get into the park?
(3) Where are the best places to stay?
(4) What are the best trials to hike, especially given that it might be snowing?

Thanks!
Avery

  1. Rainy, and can be a tad cold in Aigüestortes: http://infocatalonia.eu/w/3jo1E
  2. Depending on where you want to access the park, it's a big park. In any case, make sure you carry your snow chains.
  3. There are several regions around the park, here their tourism websites: https://www.vallboi.cat/en | http://www.vallfosca.net/en/ | http://www.turismealtaribagorca.cat/en | http://turisme.pallarssobira.cat/en/ | https://www.visitvaldaran.com/en/ | https://www.pallarsjussa.net/en

Keep in mind is a national park, and its regulations are strict.

As per roads, the park is located in Catalonia, and this is the live feed from the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Transit Authority, by the Government of Catalonia): http://mct.gencat.cat/ Finally, weather, following the same rationale, here you have the forecast for Vall de Boí for the next days by the National Weather Service of Catalonia: http://meteo.cat/prediccio/municipal/250432 Check these two websites as it gets close to your travel date.

Enjoy!

You've hit the nail on the head here, early April is not the best time to visit the Pyrenees for hiking, because of its unpredictability, there's a good chance it will still be very cold and chilly with snow, roads/trails may be closed because of lingering snowfall. I would consider pushing back your travel to the start of the summer hiking season, late May or early June, the weather will be much more pleasant (and predictable) then.
