We have a 16 night trip to Spain mapped out and planned for April 2027. As we were about to book our flights we realized our itinerary put us in Seville the first 3 nights of Feria de Sevilla. Now we're trying to figure out if this is a good thing or something we should try to avoid. Any thoughts? We were very excited to see Seville but don't know if the festival will add to it or make sightseeing a nightmare. This of course is pending if we can find reasonable hotel rates which from looking so far is scarce but doable. Thank you.
We were in Sevilla for Holy Week one year - and it's hard to top that for overlapping an event, with processions throughout the city going on for many hours.. It was fine for us. Expensive sometimes but fine. Good Luck.
I’ve been to Sevilla three times, once during Holy Week, once during the Féria, and once during a “normal” time.
In my experience, Holy Week had the biggest impact on sightseeing, with the crowds and festivities occurring right in the city proper. It can be difficult to move around from place to place.
The Féria, on the other hand, takes place in a defined area adjacent to the historic/“sightseeing” area of the city, and the crowds are focused there. It was still easy to walk around the town itself and lines at the Cathedral and Alcazar were minimal. The biggest impact, I think, is that it was hard to find taxis. And the very high lodging prices, as you’ve already discovered.
We did spend an enjoyable afternoon/evening at the Féria itself, and there were numerous horse-drawn carriages cruising through town on the way to the fair all day long, with everyone in traditional festive dress. It was a lot of fun and the atmosphere is like a big, happy party.
So I would say overall that going during the Féria is a positive, and you can either choose to join the festivities and/or ignore them and carry on with your sightseeing list.
Have fun!
