Advice for trip to Seville

My daughter will be studying abroad in Seville arriving in February. My family (husband and 2 other daughters 25 & 27) are planning on going to visit in March or April. We are planning on 7 -10 days. I began researching/ planning the trip and became very overwhelmed! How much time should be spent in Seville? Are there any other places ( Cordoba, Granada etc) you would recommend that aren’t too far that could possibly be a day trip? We would like to make the most of our time and see as much as possible. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Also, any suggestions for Airbnbs would be great. Thank you!

Note that there will be 2 super busy periods in Seville in April. Easter and the spring festival later in the month.

Holy Week (Semana Santa), the week before Easter, will be very crowded and expensive, but also very interesting. That's the week starting April 2 this year. Make reservations as soon as you can if you're going to be in Seville then. With 7-10 days, you'll have time for day trips to places like Jerez, Cadiz, and Cordoba (which would be better as an overnight). Granada is too far for a day trip but certainly a worthwhile destination if you have additional days. You might have time to rent a car and see some of the White Villages (Pueblas Blancas). See the information about Spain and Seville under "Explore Europe" in the top left corner of this page to help plan your sightseeing. A guidebook to Spain would also be worth perusing, your public library may have one if you don't want to invest in one yet. You can get information there about traveling in Spain, the sights that might interest you most, and neighborhoods with convenient accommodations.

This forum works best when people bring specific questions. What are yours?

The April Fair is 4/23-4/20 this year.

We were originally planning to be in Seville that week until we looked at hotels, had to change because the hotel rates were super high that week (as well as Semana Santa).
I'm sure the fair would be fun and exciting but it just didn't fit our budget.

There is a sweet spot for hotel rates from a few days after Easter up until 4/22.
We'll be there 4/14 thru 4/18.

If you choose April, book ASAP

Granada and Cordoba are worth the time to visit. Rent a car and spend 1 night in Cordoba and 2 nights in Granada. Do the longer drive back to Sevilla from Granada. We don’t know your flight plans which may mean doing this side trip at the front or back end to save driving backwards. Your daughter sharing her city will be the highlight. Sevilla deserves the most time-IMO. As of course your daughter.

Since you will be in Seville for 7 - 10 days, I recommend renting a car, as someone else suggested, and spending 2 nights in Cordoba and 2 nights in Granada. Both cities are wonderful with lots to do and see, and they are both very different from Seville and very different from each other.

If you don’t want to spend this much time away from your daughter, you could visit Cordoba as a day trip. But I think it is much more enjoyable to visit for a night or two. Granada is too far away to visit as a day trip.

In March 2022, I spent 4 nights in Seville, then 2 nights in Granada, then 2 nights in Cordoba. Seville has enough to occupy you for at least 3 days. Nerja has some very old tombs or structures that I didn't make time to see, which might be suspiciously similar to tombs I saw in Mycenae in Greece. Can you post a supposed day-by-day itinerary including major sites you think you want to see each day?

Edit: I didn't rent a car. I took the bus to Granada, and the train to Cordoba. The bus was 3 hours and cheaper, versus the train at 2 hours 47 minutes and about 2 to 3x the cost. You only need a car if you are going to somewhere less commonly visited or not served well by bus or train.

Do you know where you are flying in/out yet? There are fast trains from Madrid, so you can easily get to Sevilla the day you arrive, or stop over in Cordoba, which is on the same line. Cordoba is an easy day trip, for Granada I would want to overnight, so perhaps clarify how much time you are willing to spend outside of Sevilla. You can easily fill a week there so don't worry.
If you fly out of Madrid, you will want to be there the night before in all likelihood.
Also specify how long you want your day trips to take, to me, anything more than an hour to and from is too much. Jerez would qualify for a day trip.

Possible other places to visit could include, Carmona, Córdoba, Mérida, Italica, Cádiz, Cáceres, Trujillo, Guadalupe. The last three are 3 hours drive from Sevilla while Mérida is a two hours drive. You could also visit Arcos de la Frontera or Jerez de la Frontera. Each is about 1.5 hours from Sevilla. Happy planning.

You can easily take a train to Granada, Cordoba or Cadiz. You need a car for reasonable travel to Arcos, Ronda, etc. I found Granada much more moving myself. Cordoba's one church/mosque is amazing but the rest of the town is so-so.
