Hi there,
We are planning a family trip in March to Barcelona, Seville, Granada, and Madrid. We have 2 nights in each city except Granada which is 1 night. We wish we could do longer but we are fitting in what we can on a school break. We are mindful that our teens may want some adventure mixed in to balance out all of the museums, palaces, and cathedral tours. We would love some suggestions! Thank you!
I can suggest a few things we did near Granada when I went to the area with a mixed group including teens. Some went on a mountain bike trip where they were taken up the mountains in vans and biked back down. I didn’t go but those who did had a great time. They also did a walk through waterfalls and streams, we all took kayaks on a reservoir, and one day did snorkelling at La Herradura. The area is quite a centre for outdoor pursuits with it being near the Sierra Nevada mountains so there are lots of options.
In Barcelona, consider a trip to Monserrat, which can include a cable car and some hiking to hermit caves, etc. We went with our kids ages 17 and 21 and we all thought it was one of the best days. A nice break from the usual sight-seeing (even though there is a cathedral)...that said, it is an all-day trip, a few hours by train to get there. You might not want to spend that kind of time if you only have a couple days.
Another idea for any of these stops is a food tour, which combine lots of different foods with some history and sight-seeing.
I lived overseas for several years and traveled with kids, teens and pre-teens.
My kids loved the history and regular touring, but also loved scenic places. Further, they loved going up places like the Eiffel Tower or castles or towers high-up.
Have them read a book or something about the country you are visiting.
