I cannot get my iphone unlocked, so I guess I'll be buying a phone in Spain, if the price is still right. Is there any update on buying a phone, e.g. when I land at BCN - Barcelona, or are there better locations? Best/worst brands, what the cost currently is? Anything to be wary of?
Thank you.
Have you an old phone that is no longer under contract? If so, then take it and buy a SIM card and short term service plan when you arrive.
When we were in Spain this spring, my husband's US SIM card died. He bought a Spanish card at Vodaphone, but they neglected to tell him that any data plan, from any carrier, does not include texting to the US. "Everyone uses What's App so there's no need," was the response we got from several places in trying to figure out why he couldn't text even me, right beside him. So the SIM card is good for data, but not texting. Once we got the hang of What's App, that worked fine. The big thing to remember there is that the person you are texting has to have the What's App app downloaded on their phone also, think family members back home.
Why buy the unlocked phone in Spain? Buy it before you go. Then you can shop around. Then you simply buy a SIM card and plan when you arrive.
