We are traveling from France to Sitges, Spain and looking for a stop for one day.
We would love any and all suggestions if you are familiar with this area or had a great experience.

Girona, Spain has a great old town on the hill, with narrow winding passageways and great squares. We visited for a short time this past November and would've liked to have had more time there.
While I don't know the area, I can heartily second the recommendation of Girona. The Let's Go guide I was using at the time called it "a world class city, patiently waiting for the world to notice" and they were 100% right.
From where in France are you coming? By car or train? You can drive between Girona and Sitges in a couple of hours but train connections between the two are not attractive. If you're coming from Paris or Nice, then maybe you're looking for a spot on the French side of the border, like Nimes or Coullioure.
