We are in Cartagena for a day and nothing on the excursion list sounds appealing. Not really into museums and have done plenty of ancient theaters already in Italy and Greece. Any suggestions for good day trips? Don’t mind walking or hiking to see things.

To me Cartagena has no “must see” sights like some other cities, but was worth visiting. A couple suggestions, El Palmerar (Passeig de l'Estació, s/n, 03202 Elx) , Lorca castle, Salto del Usero nature preserve, or Castillo de Vélez-Blanco. Each is less than two hours away. I’m certain our resident contributor from Cartagena will have better suggestions.
